Hi,

Can anyone recommend a 4K 32" monitor that won't break the bank?

32" is kind of a niche, not a lot of inexpensive options that aren't a VA panel (bad for horizontal color shift).
The LG 32UN650-W is IPS, 32", 4k, 60 Hz. It probably won't work with gsync though since it doesn't have the certification or give any indication that freesync works over DP and nvidia GPUs don't do freesync over HDMI (cuz its AMD proprietary). As long as you don't plan on using it for faster paced gaming it should be fine. (If you want faster gaming you have to go down to 27" and would want 2560x1440 instead of 4k.)

I'll drop a line in a bigger forum too, maybe someone else has a better recommendation.

Ok, so what would you recommend at a 27" level? I'm at 27 already and thought 32 would be a nice jump. I've looked at Gsync monitors but they are all $1000 or more.

Current favorites for a budget 27"/1440p/144Hz/gsync compatible appear to be the LG 27GL850 or 27GL83-A (former has a USB hub, latter doesn't, otherwise same panel and everything).

Nope, not even a little bit. There is a reason ultrawide gaming displays with VRR are expensive: it is because gaming on an ultrawide without VRR sucks, everyone knows it and prices accordingly.

How sensitive are you to overdrive artifacts? I would suggest reading the entire gaming/response time discussion in both these articles since it really explains the differences:

I'm sure you will really like it and it should be a good screen to use for the next 5+ years so if you think of it that way the price isn't so bad. I've been tempted to buy one myself a couple times but I'm not ready to jump off my Asus PG258Q just yet (24"/1080p/240 Hz TN with native gsync).

Wife wasn't to happy but I wasn't going to go 1080p with my new system. I didn't see the point of having a system that can do 4K and not go above 1080P

So I received the monitor yesterday.

WOW

What a difference. After setting it up in Windows I started to start all my games to switch to the higher resolution and enabling HDR in games that support it. DOOM Eternal looks even better and I thought it looked awesome in 1080P.

I played Diablo 3, Shift 2 and Project Cars 2 last night. All my games run just as good at this resolution as they did at 1080P.

Bring on the weekend where I will have more time to play.

Remember to set your refresh rates to 144 hz in windows and games too if you haven't had a high hz monitor before.

Also enable gsync if it didn't automatically.

So the 144 is on by default. Played a lot of TitanFall 2 last night and it`s really a great monitor.

A lot of people don't really think about how important the display is to the quality of life on a system, but it really doesn't make much sense to spend thousands on a computer and then hook it up to a cheap display with poor quality that greatly limits the performance and appearance. I pretty much design my system upgrades based on how to get the most out of the display I'm using. I don't pick a system and then match a display to it, I pick a display and then match a system to it.

I'll always recommend spending more on a quality display and saving elsewhere in the computer because at the end of the day the display is what you directly look at when using the computer, it is the most important part when it comes to what you see when you use the computer. It is especially important when you consider that for most people it is kept through multiple upgrades of the computer driving it. It would be a shame to have an awesome machine being held back by a cheap display.
