I see Backgammon the same way. It looks neat, but I'm no going to sit-down and learn the rules. Backgammon boards have haunted the backs of my Chess/checkers sets since I was born. Nobody I grew up with knew how to play.

edit: Because of this comment, I just watched a video on how to play. Backgammon makes sense now.

edit edit: I've been calling it Bat Gammon for decades. TIL...

Back when I played, speed chess was my favorite.

Yeah. Sometimes less.

I loved using the move called 'en passant. This one caught so many off guard.

Someone once did an 'en passant checkmate on me. It broke me inside. I thought I was winning.

if you make chess dot com account and play a few games it gives you a rank. Once you're at your true level the game is more fun, as your opponents are about as serious or unserious about chess as you are.

Sorry to hear that. Online chess is a great escape from reality.

I've been a mediocre player for many years. From time to time I can spot the puzzle solutions quickly on chess.com

I play the 10 min ones as well

Xeon actually got me doing that, and I realized that letting someone think indefinitely is kinda unreasonable (at least it is to me). He used to be a great chess player, probably still is, him and "Rhell" from Australia. One time Xeon stopped me from throwing the fight and locked me into a stalemate. lol

The clock is part of the game for me now. Many times I've been up against better chess players, but I could squeeze out a win by being ahead on time.

Just the other day, I played a 10-minute game (NOT 10 min per move). I lost but I had the weirdest experience. The computer/CPU in my head (I have them because I'm not human) were turned on and I could focus on a lot more of the board and remembered all the rules and strategies I learned in the past but I needed too much time to think so I lost. After the game my CPU was turned off and it felt like I'm playing chess instead of knowing everything I need to do with each game piece with slow-ish thoughts. I don't think I ever want to play chess again.

That's normal. I have more reason to be mad. A few games ago I saw mate in 2 or 3.... my finger slipped blundering my queen instead...

I might play again with my Dad but that's it. Anyone get use out of that other "fast checkmate" with the queen and the bishop and I think one other piece? The counter for it is always funny.

I'm only level 700 and that fast mate is viable at that level. I see it every other game I play.

You know how to counter it, right?

Okay, so I tried to play chess again, with my brain/mind only like before. I was matched up pretty well. I ended up beating a random guest far into the end game. All I had were a couple rooks, a knight, and a bishop, and I was able to corner his king before he got mine. The match was long, 30 minutes, and he left the table before I could get checkmate. Was very close though. He almost got a second queen after we traded ours (capture). I would've had the second queen but he quit. lol

By the way, I used to like the en passant move too. It only works pawn against pawn and on the fifth rank (row). I remember Xeon told me once he played a game where his opponent copied all his moves and the only reason he won was because he was white (moved first). Even Chess is racist. lol. So if you have a choice, be white!
