Such a shame.
Descent was what got me into PC gaming in the first place, and it and FreeSpace are the reason I joined online communities in my very first Internet days. In a very real way I have them to thank for a large part of my online existence. Thanks for so many good times over the years.

Actually with out them, none of us would be here.

Well, Volition was split from Parallax weren't they, so they really didn't make Descent. But I believe some of the staff worked for them.

It's been too long. I forgot about Parallax.

Did Volition help beta test D3? Their name is in the credits, under Outrage thanks.

They were evenly split from Parallax. Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog co-founded Parallax, and at some point Matt relocated from Illinois to Michigan with some team members to open a satellite studio. After development on D2, they both realized that developing games from two different locations was too much trouble and mutually agreed to split. Matt's group became Outrage, which developed D3, and Mike renamed the original Parallax studio Volition and developed FreeSpace. They're pretty much the same development family, so it wouldn't surprise me if Volition provided some help to Outrage.
(Speaking of, I don't think I'd ever read this
D3 development postmortem. Some interesting stuff.)

Speaking of Mike Kulas. If anyone wants to read what he said on Discord.

Is that the Overload Discord? I probably should have joined that at some point.

It's is. I joined late myself. Many familiar faces there from the days of Kali, Heat, and PXO.

People used to make fun of me on Volition forums, even the newcomers' rank was "I'm new! Laugh at me!" >_<
I did buy their game Red Faction for the PC. It was just okay.

I remember when Red Faction was going to be Descent IV.
I got a petition going around asking them to "Enviroboot their Enviro Suit" idea from Descent IV. . . ended up getting a not so pleasant e-mail from one of the devs a Volition.
But they ended up canning the idea and making Red Faction, so I guess the petition worked???
