Why didn't the PXO crowd just join Kali?

That's pretty much the question, since you can play d3 over kali, and alot of people who came from kali to play on pxo already have kali accounts. And for newbies, they're pretty cheap. So why all the fuss about an IRC channel?

The fact that Kali costs money, and IRC doesn't.

heh.
y'know.. jusging from that response i'm glad some of the PXO'ers won't join kali.

Good, funny thing how kali supports almost every game, plus D1 and D2(IPX/SPX).
I think it's the fact they don't want to be called Newbie on Kali..but hey they can stay in their little world.
Like this GUY.. KALI Serial 188516
j/k

Kali should eb the new home of D3. It has it's own Descent server and like bubba said, it supports every game.
And file transfers, buddy list etc.

Yet no one jumped on the bandwagon when kali was only $10? Still, its now $20, and you pay that how many times? Once. I know, I didn't buy my Kali for at least a month when I was first using it. I even tried finding ways to fool it or hack it, but eventually I saw the value of it and simply purchased my own serial number. Nothing nicer or prouder than owning your own serial numbers.

I have a Kali account..4-5 years old. Hardly ever use it. Everyone is seemingly permanently marked away.

I have kali, but I don't use its chat options, just the game lists.

Anywhere from 7-12pm.
Besides, none of them play D3, and D1/D2 online doesn't interest me.

I bought a Kali serial just so I could play in the D2 Revivals, and I consider it to be money well-spent. Now, with PXO down, I can also use its excellent server-tracking ability.

Testi, 7-12m EST? There's always ppl there. Just need to wait a bit until everyone decides to goto Kali then it will be hopping.

I didn't mean for my post to sound like a plug for kali, but then again, I'm a hardcore fan of it. Granted, alot of people stick around Kali these days just to chat. In my opinion, this is caused because we've grown to know each other alot. We know who we love, and who we hate, and we've gotten accustomed to hanging out with each other. I think the same thing probably happened with the PXO crowd. So don't be afraid to make new friends (and new enemies) and come on down to Kali. I'm sure everyone will be welcomed and or despised!

I use Kali just to play D1/D2 online, not that there's that many players ever on it
. For twenty bucks, I got my moneys worth.

i still have my old Kali serial from way back when in D1/D2. Haven't used it in a while though.

I drop in on Kali every once in a while. The fact is simply that there may be kids who want to play D3 but are too young to have credit cards and therefore can't get Kali. I was lucky enough to get Kali for my birthday when I turned 13.

CC, Money order, check. You can pay like that. Iv'e bought 3 serials with a money order. No excuse.

Yeah, I have Kali as well... #180315 or something... but I can't use it at the moment without a proxy, and I haven't had access to one of those for 7-8 months.
I'm not the only one with that problem either... many people with NAT routers just can not use it, which is perhaps another reason they avoid it...

I can get a Linksys router for 75$ CDN. That's 40$ US. Time to get one Sirius. My Linksys work fine with Kali.

I'm running a FreeBSD firewall/router/dhcp server/etc and i can connect to kali just fine. just gotta open up the correct ports.

So to sum up, the people formerly on PXO simply do not have a valid excuse to not be a part of Kali, a gaming and chat system that has proven its mettle and lasted this long. It will continue to last for many years.

Better than everyone being scattered all over the place, the community is small enough as it is. Maybe we can set up a fund or something for the kiddies that can't buy it for whatever reason?

Maybe someone could post a Diagram on how to;
A) BEG Mom and Dad for the money (with the promise to stop using AOL)
B) GET a JOB (OMFG you aren't Serious)
C) Cut the neighbors lawn (OMG you mean WORK!!)
D) Collect Soda/Beer Cans and return them for DEPOSITS that's 400 Cans Folks (OMG, you mean Lurk at a party and sweep up the cans at the end of the NIGHT!)
It's $20, lifetime membership, NO ADS (Gheyspy)
OH and Avoid Netgear & D/Link Routers for any GAMING they have Serious NAT issues!

Bubbalou has it ever occured to you that people don't have any motivation to get Kali because they don't perceive it to be something they need?
Tell them why they need it and maybe they'll get it.

Kali =
play warez games without hassle.
buddy list
chat rooms
game servers
ignore features
file transfers
and many more
Kali

Well, actually I just had to reinstall Kali because it was the only way I could find a game. The cs tracker was down and so was planetdescent. And I can't figure out how to find a game using that irc thingy. Had a ★■◆● of a time just trying to input my nick until I stumbled across the newbie channel.

Merlin... we have all that stuff without Kali. Why do we need Kali?
Codger wrote:I can't figure out how to find a game using that irc thingy.
Codger, IRC is for chat and not for finding games.

Kali was originally MADE Exclusively for play Descent on the Net. It faked the game out into thinking it was on a Lan.

Suncho, try playing a wared copy of War3 on Bnet. Won't happen. These are the types of games I meant.

#1: You don't have to pay for Kali to use it.
#2: Most IRC Clients want you to pay too.
#3: No IRC Clients have built-in D3 game browsers.
#4: Kali was the heart of the Descent community way back when.
#5: Kali supports many other games, and has built-in game browsers for all of them.
#6: Did I mention there are no IRC clients with built-in game browsers?
I think that Kali is probably superior to MIRC for Descent chat.
Suncho, let's face it, through some Byzantine logic that nobody else understands, you keep coming up with these impractical, counter-intuitive ideas to "Save Descent 3". I applaud your good intentions, but keep in mind which road is paved with good intentions.
I don't claim to have the 'solution' to the problem, but I honestly think using Kali is a good idea. Yeah, there are some drawbacks for those who can't or won't purchase a (lifetime!) registration...But the chat and game browser functionality make Kali far superior to using the IRC network for chat.
