D2X WinXP Networking Multiplayer Problems: Please Help!

Hello all,

I've been having a HECK of a time getting D2X to work for me in multiplayer mode.

I've been using the 2.5 GL program that I Downloaded from the D2X website.

I have two WinXP machines here. When I Host a game, the other machine can see the game on the 'join game' list just fine, but when I hit enter to join, the client just sits there on the 'connecting' screen.

I've tried running d2x with the -udp switch; that didn't work

I've tried using the -udp =(broadcast ip):0
That didn't work. I got that idea from some guy talking about his networking woes, but that was using the linux client so I don't know if that applies to me

Any pointers?

By th way, if I load up the Retail Win95 edition of Descent2, the networking works just great so I don't believe it's my system setup.

Make sure you have 'IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Network Protocol' installed in your Local Area Connection.

Steps:
Right Click Network Places, goto Properties.
Right Click on your Internet Connection in the Network Connection Window and goto Properties. (Or, to save you hastle, if you have the internet connection icon in your system tray down in the bottom right, right click that and goto properties)
In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog window go to install.
Select Protocol and in the list it should have 'IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Network Protocol' if it isn't already installed, then click add. It might take a few, depending on your machine, but not too long.

Click out with OK on all the rest of the stuff to close it all down and see if that fixes the problem. If it is already installed then obviously that isn't the solution ;)

Yes it's installed.
I don't believe that the Win95 Edition would work without it would it?

Anyway, Mine is labeled:
NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol

Should I have to change any of the properties on the IPX protocol driver?

Did you try specifying a certain port?

Make sure in the Properties for that NWLink driver your IPX number is something other than 00000000. 00000001 should work fine.

Firewall is turned off

Should the 'internal network number' be the same on all machine? or should one be 0000001 and the other 0000002, etc?

Also, Frame Type is set to Auto. Is this correct?

Am I just being a moron here? Are most people here MAC users or are there plenty of XP users that can get D2X running just fine?

Try this version of D2x

This is the version I'm using right now. PLEASE read the included text file. You'll also need to download new SDL libraries to fix the lagging sound issue (which plagues all versions of D2x).

SDL_image: http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_image/
SDL: http://www.libsdl.org/download-1.2.php

I've had zero problems with this version so if it doesn't work then its something on your end.

Wow

The IPX Multiplayer modes worked great!

I wasn't able to get the UDP/IP or the Multicast modes to work, but I guess it doesn't matter since the IPX worked

Any ideas as to why I couldn't get the IP modes to work?
