I prefer to view the images full size, even if it means scrolling. I just don't want to have to scroll whenever I read the text in the page. Therefore, the best solution is not image resizing, it's image linking.

Anyone else have input on this policy?

uh... the images in Skyalmian's post weren't the ones that made me scroll. It was some images in this thread...

Sky, there's always the option of resizing the image beforehand so it doesn't make me scroll. Because some people are too lazy to do that, I turn their images into links. Your complaint is still with whoever posted the image in the first place.

It messes up the layout of the thread and makes it much harder to read. If someone has a long post, then it too scrolls horizontally, therefore linking images prevents this and keeps threads looking nice.

yea i agree with that, but the only thing i'm not so certain about is whether or not the pictures posted were long enough to warrant being linked.

but no biggie.

The second half to this rule is that if you post a long link and/or word (like hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha only a lot longer) I'll edit that down, too. If it makes me scroll, it's too much.

And what resolution do you use?
Most people run at 1024x768 (I do), others at high ones like 1280x960 or 1600x1200 (like I know Starkiller does).

I run anywhere between 800x600 (on my 14" monitor from Value Village) to 1280x1024 (on my 20" flatscreen in the office). I like for my icons to be large and readable...

Sky, not everyone uses Internet Explorer. (shocking, I know) Furthermore, not everyone views at the same resolution. The general rule is that if it makes people scroll at 1024x768, its too big to be embedded. What's so hard about thumbnailing? It'd take you what, an extra two seconds in Photoshop (or whatever you use)?

but it's really hard to thumbnail if you're stealing someone else's bandwidth.
