Compro TV Gold Plus

A while back, someone posted a thread about video capture cards. Someone mentioned the Compro TV Gold Plus card, that can turn on the computer, record something, and power off the computer.

A friend of mine left this morning to be a fishing boat captain in Alaska. He needs his Howard Stern, so he asked me if there was a way for me to record it and send it to him. Remembering that thread, I investigated the Compro card, and found that it did FM recording to mp3. Specifically, I read this at Tom's Hardware: "At the scheduled time, the computer will turn itself on and the TV card will begin to record content fro a TV channel or FM station."

Since I figured this would be just the thing I would need to record Stern without waking up at 6am every morning, I had my friend get this for me. It just arrived today, and is installed and working properly.

YOU CAN'T SCHEDULE RECORDING FOR FM!!! Only for TV. I tried updating the software, but the schedule button is greyed out in the FM app.

So, my question to anyone that has this card: Is there a way to do what I'm trying to do? I need the card to power up my computer at 6am, record an FM station, and turn off my computer at 11am.

Thanks.

what i'd do is set the PC to record something from the TV (any channel) for only 1 second, just before the alloted time that the RADIO broadcast is set to start (so it powers up, but make sure it is set to NOT autopowerdown).

so you are basically using the TV part just to wake up the computer.

then once the PC is awake, it can run any scheduled recording events (with inbuilt windows scheduler or something), from ANOTHER program.

just grab a program that can schedule audio recording, it shouldn't be too hard, i'll give you a hand if you want. if you can't be fucked scheduling the audio recording, just put it into the windows startup (so it starts as soon as the TV 1 second schedule thing wakes up the PC).

Ok, after a little testing, I've found that I can get the machine to turn on, record TV snow for 1 minute, and leave the PC on. The DVR app and the FM app won't run at the same time, so I used Windows Scheduling to start the FM app a few minutes after the scheduled DVR recording.

So, I have the machine turning on, the DVR app doing it's thing and closing, and then the FM app running. Now all I need is an audio recording program that fits a few specific requirements. I'll start another thread on that.

Thanks Roid.

Sweet. Compro tech support just emailed me a link to an unreleased beta of the FM app that supports scheduling. I just tried it, and it works like a champ.

perhaps you can also get a free macro program, to automatically press certain buttons once the mp3 recorder program is run. this is if you can't find a way of getting the recording program to automatically start recording on it's own.

Yeah, the updated FM App from Compro does exactly what I need. It turns the computer on, records FM to MP3, and turns the computer off. No work-around was needed.

Thanks, though.

I ended up getting the WinTV PVR-250 for 99 bucks. Im placing it in a home theater PC and it just has more compatibility with all the stuff out there in that segment of PCs
