Recently I had my car robbed as some know. I lost the faceplate off from my Pioneer P6500. my Van Halen CD, Hoobastank, P.O.D., Linkin Park, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Earshot, and I lost my $20 sunglasses, and a day planner was lost. Luckily the windows weren't broken.

The reason this happened?


The only way to lock the doors on my car is to first lock the door and then hold up on the handle before closeing. Many of my friends forget to hold up on the handle. This causes the lock to pop back up after the door is closed. Anyway, I was with a friend who forgot to do this and guess what? For the first time ever, I got robbed!

I live in a very safe neighborhood where people rarely lock their doors.


Anyway, getting down to the point, does anyone know how to disable this function? It is really annoying.

Also, does anyone know of a good cheapo car alarm system?

I would also like to know if there is a way to add an autmatic locking system where you can just press a button and all the car doors lock like most cars have? How much would this cost?

you're looking at $250 installed for keyless entry with an alarm from a cheapo brand. you can tackle it yourself for like 50 bucks for a basic generic alarm, but its probably not something you should try unless you know what you are doing and it will be more for keyless. you also have to buy pins for each door/trunk and run them to it if the system doesn't come with them (cheapos dont, just pin for driver door)

i reccomend crimegaurd, i've had a generic and a crimeguard, the crimegaurd was so much better. generics go off randomly, they chirp for no reason, and sometimes you can get in the car without them going off. never had any problems with the crimeguard i had, but it wasn't cheap. i think i paid $349 installed for mine and they used the factory keyless i already had.

i.e. it probably isn't worth it on your ride/and your monetary situation. just stop keeping things of value in it. always take the faceplate with you and never keep anything of value in plain sight. and definately don't tint your windows. cars with tinted windows are robbed alot more often. you may be thinking that with tinted windows nobody can see into your car and see what you have, but the crook is thinking the same thing - you must be trying to hide something in there.

it was probably just some punk kid, especially if locking your car stops them. i know people around here who do these kinds of things and they aren't stopped by locks or public places. the best thing to do to prevent this from happening again is to put your cd's somewhere out of sight and not in the same place everyone else in the world does... underneath the passenger seat. nobody in their right mind would risk robbing your car unless they specifically saw something they wanted.

Yeah, your best bet would be getting in the habit of reminding your friends to hold the handle up, and making sure they do. Obviously it was just some punk kid that broke in- any car thief worth anything knows how easy it is to take after-market stereos out. And, yeah, take your faceplate with you, as k said. About 90% of the after market stereos on campus at my school got stolen last year- all of em smashed windows. If you know what your doing, it takes 5min tops to get one of those stereos out.
