German Police Raid Islamic School
Tuesday, July 13, 2004
FRANKFURT, Germany â?? Police raided an Islamic school on Monday seizing computer hard-drives and discs looking for evidence of violent films, including a beheading, that a young girl said were shown to her and other children to incite hatred toward non-Muslims, authorities said.
Some 120 officers raided the Taqwa Mosque (search)'s Islamic school on Sunday after the 9-year-old told her public school teacher she and other children were shown violent videos calling for a "holy war against unbelievers," Frankfurt prosecutor's spokeswoman Doris Mueller-Scheu said.
Mosque director Ahmed Ayaou called the raid an insult, and said he did not know who the girl was or what she was talking about.
"This was very surprising â?? it fell upon us like a blow," he said. "Our association accepts and respects German law. We are well known in Frankfurt (search), and we live with everyone peacefully."
He criticized police for coming in to the mosque with weapons and not taking their shoes off as they searched the building.
Some 340 Moroccan families attend the mosque, which is located near the city's main train station.
Sifting through the confiscated data, which included 19 computers, could take several weeks, because of the need to translate it from Arabic, Mueller-Scheu said.
What will be found?

Nothing except evidence of mass hysteria.

Would you care to elaborate?

Investigating allegations that 9-year-olds are being shown video of beheadings is mass hysteria? Hrm, what would phase you ... a live demonstration for show-n-tell?

Hell of a way to "investigate", though. Innocent until proven guilty anyone?

In germany, normally this kind of raid won't be done basing on suspicions -- I'd expect more evidence/previous incidents that are not mentioned in the article. But then I haven't been in germany for 3 years -- who knows what changed..

Well, how should they investigate? An allegation of criminal activity was put forth. A warrant was issued to search the premises where said activities alledgedly took place. The warrant was excercised and evidence was confiscated in an effort to prove or disprove the charge. Which item in this list concerns you?
As for your last question, well, I saw no mention of arrests. Therefore, I would say, "Yes. Innocent until proven guilty."

"Some 120 officers raided the Taqwa Mosque" <- you don't need a frigging army for an "investigation"

What experience do you have in law enforcement? Not saying you're wrong, but how do you know how many officers were necessary? If that's your only beef, then you're just nitpicking.
