Sunday, i was in Akron Ohio waiting to get on a plane when a very un-nerving message was said over the gate announcment speakers......

"Ladies and Gentlemen of Flight 4483 service to Atlanta, we unfourtinately have a not soo good announcment to make. A fire has been reported at Harstfield Airport in the Fuel Farm pumping system. half of the aircraft at Hartsfield cannot be fueled and thus cannot leave the gates. the plane that was supposed to be enroute at this time, is still grounded at Atlanta. We have no idea how long this situation will last. We will give you a update @ 4:30."

A FIRE IN THE FUEL PUMPING SYSTEM!!! immediately my mom calls dad still here in ATL at home, and strangely....this is not on the news. even after i get back last night it still has not made the news?!?!?!?! so WTF.... Ded can you give us any insight on what happend? i got stranded at Akron-Canton Airport for 5 hours Sunday and even again while the East Coast was recovering from this event, bad weather right after the fire in atlanta along the entire eastern seaboard...sent air traffic in a total FUBAR situation. i got stranded again yesterday at Cleveland for 4 hours :x.

id like to find any info on WTF Happend, but there is none?? Dedman, hit me up with a Email or PM...id like to ask you a quickie question...

While not as efficient on some fronts as the point to point carriers, hub and spoke carriers still offer some benefits the point to points can't.

Fire in the Fuel system, but not the Fuel on fire!
that sounds about right, you can't just ignite JP5 with a match!

Why would it be on the news? Who cares..some people got stuck at an airport.

Only to drama queens. The fire didn't burn for 4 hours, it probably didn't last 10 minutes. However, anything such as a fire would prompt a nice long inspection period.

it lasted ~ 20-25 minutes......but the havoc it wrecked on the eastern coast flight system.....lasted for 1 1/2 days.

let me throw this at you aswell....2 years ago a bush-hog tractor was mowing grass between taxiway's and accidentally struck a fuel system vent pipe. it caused a 100 foot high geyser of Jet A "JP4" fuel to spew for a good 15-20 minutes. this caught the news in less than 5 minutes.

7 years ago a MD-11 came in to KATL with one engine trailing smoke.......this also caught the news in less than 5 minutes.
