But I still want to have some sort of control over the parts and software that come with the bloody thing. The financing options of a comes-from-a-store computer are nice too. So I think I'll probably do it online as opposed to having the local knobs at future shop sell me something from HP (I detest HP).

So, where do I go for a good balance between customer service, price, and quality? I looked at alienware, which I understand to be somewhere you can pay a little more for something that won't go sideways on you. The setup I would like (with the moniter and OS and everything) comes to almost $2500 cdn, which is a little more than I had hoped to pay. Anywhere you guys can point me towards that's worth taking a boo at?

I don't know what kind of import taxes I will have to pay either. I don't want to get footed with some $400 charge for bringing the thing across the border.

financing a computer really isn't worth it.

If you can't afford want you want upfront, aim lower, rather than deal with interest.

And, I dunno, buy the computer from Alberta?

if you want cheap, hit dell.ca

Check out monarch computers. They have a lot of choices for customizing your comp. We have been using them and Xi computers at work for our boxes for the last few years and they are nice. Monarch tends to be a little cheaper than Xi as well. Good luck. I also have an Alienware at work and it is nice too but costs more than the two above companies.
