The DNC touted how their big convention was going to generate 150 million in revenue. Due to the main roads closing, people who work in Boston taking the week off and resultant business shutting down...it is now forcast Boston will loose more than 50 million. In light of all the security concerns, maybe these conventions ought to think about holding their activities on a military base instead of screwing up everyones schedule

Not nearly on the scale of Boston. The GOP convention is going to be held at Madison Square Garden, which is directly above Penn Station, which is the major hub for the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak, as well as a major stop on the A, C, E, 1, 2, 3, and 9 trains, and is one block away from a major terminal for the Port Authority's PATH train (which links the eastern shore of NJ to Manhattan under the Hudson River). The Secret Service wanted to shut down Penn Station, effectively forcing people coming from Long Island to transfer to a subway in Queens, people coming from New Jersey via NJT to transfer to PATH in Hoboken, screwing up Amtrak royally, forcing passengers on the 8th Ave and 7th Ave lines of the subway to get out at either 42 St or 28th St and hoof it, and screwing over anyone that worked in Penn Plaza, also directly above Penn Station and adjacent to MSG.
In short, Mayor Bloomberg said "F You!".
God I'm glad it's summer.
