Hey, I don't know if anybody remembers me, I started out on the DBB around 5 years ago, I'm sure some of you do. Either way, I'm back! I got got the capability to play Descent again so rock on, I'ma hit the mines!

Hi.

I tried looking at thr Multiplayer forum and all I got out of it was computer lingo and technical gibberish, none of which I understood. Can someone please tell me how I can play in a simple manner, possibly a step-by-step numbered list? I'm sure that all of you Techies and Trekkies out there would love to help out my technologically ignorant predicament, plus I really want to play the damn thing. I beg of you all.

Jot down IP, punch it in, play.

forget "jot down ip"... you can do everything automatically, thusly:

1) go to d3.descent.cx using internet explorer (not netscape, mozilla, etc.)
2) find a game you want to play in the list. Click on the IP address on the far right of the page.
3) on the page it takes you to, put in the location of your Descent .exe file (should be something like c:\games\descent3\main.exe or c:\program files\descent3\main.exe)
4) click "launch via bat file"
5) click "open" on the window that pops up
6) play

if you do use the .bat file, make sure you enter your preferred comand line parameters in the field privided on the .cx website, or your game wont run the same as if you typed the IP in.

It still doesn't work, my brother says we're behind something called a hardware firewall and that might have something to do with it. Whenever I go in and try to use the BAT or the EXE thing it will sit there and say it's waiting for server, or it just shuts off, or it says something about an MN3 file, but either way it won't go into the f*cking game.

FJ, you roxored me in Kata a long time ago... You're the one that got me to absolutely LOVE that level. When you get it working again, I want to 1on1 you! Do you use AIM? If so, my AIM screen name is WoT*Stupid (remove the asterisk). I'm always on from 10 Eastern or so until 11-12 Eastern. Also, I can't remember which state you are in, but maybe you'd be interested in going to the Chicago LAN? It is August 13-15th.

From my experience, I ALWAYS have to turn off my firewall in order to see games when I am using TCP/IP through running D3 itself.
