When I boot - or come out of Screensaver mode, for some stupid reason (Installed .NET yesterday) I now have to click My User Account name to get back to the desktop. ACK! I hate that. How do I disable this selection process so it just logs straight into my account and never bothers me again?

sniff around the Users control panel.
you should be able the change the way users log-in.
also might help of you disabled the password on the screen saver.

System Restore should fix it.

Try this, it worked for me.
If your computer is set to autologin, installing the .NET Framework will
change this setting and force you to login manually. To fix this, follow
the following steps.
1) Select Run from the start menu.
2) Type 'control userpasswords2' to open the user accounts application.
3) On the Users tab, clear the box for "Users Must Enter A User Name And
Password To Use This Computer" and click OK.
4) An "Automatically Log On" dialog box will appear. Enter the user name
and password for the account you want to use.
You may also need to uncheck the box under screensavers that says display windows welcome screen.

Or go to Display and uncheck "On Resume, display Welcome Screen" on the screensaver tab. This setting will apply when you have more than one user account.

System Restore is also likely to remove the .NET Framework in the process
.
