1. First....go here.
http://d3.descent.cx/tracker.d3
2. Find the game you want to play, (assuming people are in it) and click on the row of numbers (IP) to the right of it.
3. Click on "Launch via EXE"
4. This will start D3...(click "esc" twice to get out of the D3 movies)as you would normally.
5. Your on your way...
That's what I do...

No, the d1.descent.cx doesn't mean that the server is hosting a Descent 1 game. It's just the chosen name for the D3 server. Yes, you'll have to download the actual mission (.mn3) files before playing in a server that is hosting them. That "line 0" error means that you're trying to download a server whose mission you don't have. Any missions you download go into the "missions" folder in your main D3 directory. You can get D3 missions from
Levels4You and
PlanetDescent, except PD is temporarily down. For any more questions, I'll refer you to a rough draft of my
D3 Beginner's Manual. A few sections need updating, and I didn't add all of the links I wanted to, but this should help get you started. If you have any more questions, just ask
.
P.S. When PD gets back up and running, I'm hoping to have this guide hosted there, as a permanent reference for new pilots.

PD's DETLEF site is still operable, but you just can't update it right now. Of course you had to have gotten the DETLEF files before the site went down

Now how did I forget Gameedit?
Thunderbird, if you're a good guess regarding the zip file names, you can still try to directly download them. If you tried enough filenames at
http://www.dfiles.de/download/d3/missions, you'd probably find at least one of them
. This may not be the fastest method, but at least the files are still there.
