Is Using a Mac Cheating?

The Mac has the following "features":
1. Instant turning for mouse users.
2. Locked at 7pps.
Is it cheating to use a Mac?

now you're really getting funny
i would agree on the mouselook thingy, but other than that... its harder to be good at D3 with a Mac.
My efficency improved - much - after i switched from a Mac to the PC.
And nobody ever complained about my skippiness in the older times.

I'd also like to add that Macs cant hold down a fully charged fusion. they have to release it immediately when its charged or they will start 2 lose shields (where on a pc, you could hold it down 3 seconds after it fully charged). That makes it nearly impossible 2 aim a fully charged fusion for a mac user

I voted "No": unless someone goes out of their way to get a Mac for D3 it just doesn't seem right to contest the matter.

Voted no aswell -- the 7pps can be annoying as hell tho..

I agree with Sarge. IT's not right to ban someone just because they have a mac, cause they bought D3 just like everyone else. On the other hand Mouselooking should deffinetly not exist because it's breaking the restrictions that every other D3 pilot has. So even if it's not really cheating it's still not cool.

even tho im anoyed by mac users, i say no.

Players are not responsible for a developer's decisions. GraphSim is the one to blame for these problems, not the Mac players.
Is the PPS really locked at 7 though? I know the Linux version has a hidden file that simulates the D3 registry entries on Windows.

I remember Whollycow^BoTS^ (mac user) saying its locked at 7pps.
its an advantage and at the same time, disadvantage

I was feeling lazy so I didn't want to move the mouse much. I voted yes. If no was at the top of the list I would have voted no.

On a PC, when your fusion overcharges, how much damage you take is framerate dependent. Since I have a fast computer, if I hold it down for a couple seconds, I'm dead from 100 shields. You can't hold down fusion after it's fully charged. I don't know what you're talking about.

You think Graphsim decided to give Mac players an advantage? I don't. I think it's a bug. The bug is exploited by using a mouse. Do I blame the players? Not really. If I only had a Mac, I might exploit this bug. But do I want Mac players in any of my games? Definitely not.

dude Jazzy and Liquid know exactly what i'm talking about. like at the point when its fully charged, you could hold it down for a few more seconds
on a mac, u cant do that. get what i'm saying?

Fully charged fusion is just before it starts to eat your shields not immediately after the sound becomes monotone
I gather what you meant is, either you cannot fully charge your fusion because it starts eating sheilds up the moment the sound becomes monotone OR your fusion actually fully charges faster than a PC does
If it's the later.. *cough* MACS ARE HACKS *cough*
On another note, there is a bug in d3 that lets you charge your fusion in less than a second
I don't think it has been fixed in 1.5 either

what completely counteracts the 'advantages' of playing D3 on a Mac is the rotten Joystick support. On a PC its much more accurate. So, at least in MD fights Macs are completely at a disadvantage.

Suncho, you're dumb as ice!
GraphSim decided to make the game the way they did, but they made it with that bug unintentionally. That's what he's saying.
Can't Mac users use Flight Sim mode for their mice?
Xeon, you should tell me what the bug is. ^_~
I think it does that when you run D3 at high fps using the ACPI Uniprocessor/Multiprocessor PC.

You can't blame someone for flaws in a certain version of a game. Just be happy that we have Mac gamers. As a very noobish player, I don't see how either of those bugs affects me. I'll get killed with or without them

He bought the game, and put it into his computer. Thats not cheating. and the 7pps? that's a disadvantage, shouldnt be up there.

i was recently looking at Descent3.com and i noticed on the right hand side of the site that it says "D3 Mac" and gives you a link to buy the game for mac. If its cheating why would a site run by suncho promote the game, suncho would never promote cheating now would he ?

Way to be supportive of the community, chump.
Heaven forbid the game that follows in Descent's footsteps ever be corrupted by your elitist preaching.

If a mac player sucks, those things are not going to save him. And if he owns, it's not going to matter anyhow. So who cares?

It's just Suncho's way of alienating more of the D3 community.
If a MAC player is playing at 7pps online, well that sucks for the mac player (most of firing packets will never get to the server). He has to work 50% harder to get a Kill. and to everyone else he looks like a 56k user....
If the MAC user is flying around is a Pheonix knowing about 7pps...THAT'S NOT RIGHT!
Oh well! My personal belief is a Mac user should use a MAC for what it was intended...GRAPHICS and have a PC for everthing else. I set my dad up with 2 pc's and 1 mac..he is a very happy camper

well suncho put this poll up because I wanted to join D3L, but suncho said my mac was cheating so he wouldnt register me (on the rules, it does say cheating isnt allowed). well he might be right..and i'm not gonna bother about it anymore. so i'll just sit out of it til I get a pc.

I used to be on the ladder (near the bottom, but hey), but I guess cheating was okay back then.
I use keyboard anyway, so no mouselook-despite-mouselook-being-disabled action going on. 7pps, meh.
I never noticed any difference between doing D3 on my Mac and on my XP machine, so either there's nothing really wrong with the Mac code, or else I just suck. Or both.
