Putting in my 3 week notice...

Welp. It's 3 weeks 3 days and counting until my life completely changes as I know it. I decided back in June to join the Army with my friend. I'm sick of my job, I don't see any future as a civilian, and the benefits can't be beat. I just thought I'd let you all know, being as that I've known most of you for going on 4 years now. It's prolly gonna be about 6 months before I'll be able to get back on a computer again, and also depending on where I'm stationed after advanced training. Now I don't want any sympathetic replies, or "Aren't you worried about (insert scenario) in (insert country)". I chose to do this, and I want to do this. I think it'll be a great experience, and a chance to get out and see the world. And I follow a strict 'Whatever happens, happens' policy... so I'm not worried in the slightest.
I just wanted to thank you guys for everything. The good, the bad, the slightly dorky, and the boring. I'm sure I'll come back on soon to say hey when I get the chance, but if that chance doesn't arise for a long time, I just want you all to know that it's been a great 4 years. Wish I could shake all your hands, but that's just one of those drawbacks of an online thing.
Oh well, I don't know how to end it.. and I'm not gone yet... so until next time.
Stingy loves yah.

dork!!
Come on, don't leave us!!
Hehe, my buddy has been in the army for some time. It's really rough to go through it. I know he had a really hard time in there but he came out allright in the end and is actually much easier to get a long with. It can really teach you who your friends are back home.
BTW, can I have your Vette while your gone? j/k

Awww. Thanks guys. I was GONNA choose a helicopter related field, e.g. 13T which was blackhawk crew mechanic. Basically fly around in a blackhawk and fix it while I go. But my vision in my right eye isn't correctible to 20/20 (off by 5 points) so I got DQ'd for the position. I scored 93 on the asvab and got disqualified because of vision.. sucks, but that's the breaks. So instead of being a pussy and giving up, I chose to just get my foot in the door. Petroleum fuel specialist. Pretty much a glorified gas guy. I'm gonna do this until I can get my laser eye surgery, then put in my warrant officer of flight packet to fly helicopters. It's a shot in the dark, but it might happen.
I'll be sure to check in once in a while to keep you all up on the down low.

Joe, I think you've made a good decision. Talking with you over the past 3 years or so I knew you weren't happy with what you were doing. So take advantage of what they have to offer.
My son spent 6 in the Navy, got the equivilant of a bachelor's in Electronics and is now using his GI benefits to go back to school.
And you may be taking the chance of putting yourself in harm's way, but like you said, "What happens, happens" Hell, you can get mowed down by a bus walking across the street.
I will miss your "Stingy" reparte in chat and here. So, don't stay away too long.
I await your return and may God be with you.

I second the comments by Jax and the rest of the guys. Making a commitment like this shows a depth of maturity and character that I wish I had had when I was a younger guy.
Short aside: My father was almost tossed out of college when he joined the army. After honorable discharge, he blew through his undergrad, got a law degree and an MBA. My brother had a similar experience. It's the rare occasion you meet a guy who goes the distance in this regard and then says he regrets it.
But most importantly, you're showing us by example what you're too modest to say -- that you're willing to put your life on the line for your country, in a time of war. Your parents have a son to be proud of.
Good luck and God bless. Please don't be a stranger; let us know where you are, and how you're doing. The world is your oyster, pal.

Uh Stingy... has anyone told you that in the army they don't shoot purple goo blobs and you don't get to respawn by hitting the space bar?
Seriously, good luck. Those in the armed forces of any country do a great service to their fellow citizens.

Good decision. Hopefully you are getting a good MOS (military occupational specialty). Just a little advice...when the poop hits the crapper, keep your head down and your fanny even lower.
Good luck and post here whenever you can.
