Starting a couple of days ago, internet has been VERY slow! I have InsightBB Cable internet, and usually ping around 60 on most servers around the area (eastern united states), but over the past couple of days I have seen NO ping under 400!

Internet is slow, it takes almost a minute to even load the DBB slpash screen! It's like I'm back on dial up again. WOE IS ME.

Anyways I was wondering if this is a common symptom of some computer viruses, or if this is common for Internet service providers to slow Internet down sometimes, for matinence or other reasons.

Or maybe there is a bigger explanation to this... Maybe it is at fault of the Aliens that we HAVE made contact with...

Ok, if you're getting pings over 400 to your ISP, then the problem is most likely on your end or somewhere between you and them.

Just curious, but have you scanned your box recently for spyare or worm infections?

That was my first thought. Also, if you find something like a trojan, make sure your ports in and out are where they're supposed to be.

I'm betting on him getting bit a worm, and he's sending a shitload of spam out. (yeah, they do snoop that low)

Traceroute a few servers and see if theres a specific hop thats gone bad

Thanks. I'll try scanning for some spyware. We got 3 computers using the same Internet, and we tried a test. We shut down two of them to see if those were the infected ones, but they weren't, Internet was still slow. So then we shut down the other one, and booted up one of them and Internet was still slow...
Is it possible that the spyware could be on more than one computer?

I don't think it could travel over our Network, because we don't know how to set up a Network and it's fucked. (we can't even start LAN games and join them, we have to start Internet games and connect to the IP.)

Maybe a wire went bad or something. I'll try resetting the router.

What internet test would you reccomend for testing Internet speed?

its a very good optimizer it can work on some cable connections and devices.

Sage, leave all the machines on and ping them from your machine. If its not internal to your network, then call up your ISP and have them send out a tech.

Well it's better now. Internet is fast once agen and I am seeing pings under 10. Man that was scary. Thanks for trying to help!

Do you think that it's just because your on cable?
It's shared bandwidth, and if everyone on your area gets on at once, your going to see speed degredation.
(I'm starting to see it now too, but DSL is too expensive to get 2mb+ speeds.)
