I never-ever want to see another hog ring for the rest of my life! That said, all the cuts and bruises were worth it! My 68 now looks and rides like a brand new car...

People showing cars typically bring a couple of chairs to kick back and rest between checking out the other rides. I was amazed to see how flat out RUDE many of the people that attend the shows are.

Example #1

I'm parked next to a really nice 65 GTO hardtop. You can tell the guy has put a lot of work into it with a non stock big block motor and a custom interior. We are sitting about 5ft behind the cars when a group of guys come up and check out his ride...
Redneck #1 "Wow! Nice Car" (normal volume)
Redneck #2 "Yeah, but look at this sh1tty interior" (booming voice)
Redneck #1 "Yeah, Too bad" (louder than normal)

Example #2

A couple of guys are checking out my Mustang, and are very loudly pointing out any and all defects with paint/body/interior. Now I understand that I am showing the car, but these guys were being exaggerative and abusive. After 5 minutes of this, I got a little miffed, and confronted them...

Me: Excuse me sir, are you married, and is your wife here?
Dumbass#1: "Um.. Yeah..."
Me: "Could you do me a favor and have your wife join us over here so I can point out some of the flaws in her makeup and physical condition?"
Dumbass#1: "EXCUSE ME?"
Me: "I don't mind you inspecting the car, but would you mind at least keeping your negative comments to a low roar?"

At that point I think Dumbass#2 wanted to deck me, but Dumbass#1 assessed the situation and realized how rude he was being. He apologized, I apologized and life went on.

Sound like isolated incidents? Since I have been attending these things, it seems like 1 in 10 has something rude to say, and proudly do so knowing that they are in full earshot of the owner.

I don't get it, People just suck!

wow, those cars look really nice mate.

that's a GT Ford and a Stingray behind it right? (i'm not too car knowledgeable). i'd really love a stingray like that, love the orange colour.

it's so nice to see some cars that don't look like a TRON2.0 light disco inside

so which one was yours? the blue one or the grey one? (or are the the same car, under different light)

We're holding a little E21 meeting next sunday, I think we should have two to three dozen of E21 type cars together... Fun thing is, I already know two third of the owners

Thanks guys, it's the smiles and positive responses the car generates that really make it worth showing.

As for hours into the resto... I couldn't even imagine. I've had the car since the end of the first Persian Gulf war. It took me a year of evenings and weekends to rebuild the motor/suspension/any other mechanical device. 3.5 years ago I handed the body/paint over to a "Pro", and just got it back in July. I plan on pulling the motor and restomoding an AOD over the winter.

Roid- They are one in the same. The car show picture was taken at sunset so the paint was reflecting a lot of blue. The Stingray's owner named the car "The Great Pumpkin" and had a bunch of Peanuts stuff around it.

It's tough to bite your toung after putting so much work into something, and have some "Dumbass" crap all over it because he dosen't have the motivation to do one himself. It's kind of like someone insulting your kid. You hear it, it registers, and you try to hold back the urge to pummel them with baseball bats so as not to set a bad example. (My daughter attends a lot of these shows with me)

Lobber: Yeah, It's a fold down rear seat. The back panel of the interior also opens up into the trunk. You wouldn't believe how friggin small the trunk area of this car is. I would have taken a picture of the rear seats (which I re-upholstered) except that the rear seatbelts are still blue. One of those items that are hard to find in good shape and still affordable.

Oh, and I almost forgot the nimrods that line the streets during a Cruise... Big fat a5535 that are kicked back in their overstressed lawn chairs claiming divine knowledge of your motor/trans/diff combo just by the sound of your exhaust. My wife loves to mess with these guys because they try to taunt you into lighting 'em up by saying things like:

Fatass: "That thing dosent sound fast at all"

Wife's reply: "Really? How fast have you been clocked in that lawn chair?"

Fatass#2: "Oh, that's just a Ford, it ain't got nothin"

Wife's reply: "Yeah, and I'm sure that Martha Stewart special your sporting would smoke any of these cars if you could get the gross vehicle weight down"

I hate people, but I love my wife!

hehe... That's the only problem my wife has with the car... I've NEVER had a radio hooked up in it. There has always been an original AM radio in the dash to keep the hole filled, but I've never felt the urge to connect the power up. The engine sounds so nice to me that I prefer listening to it over anything the speaker could belch out.

And I ALWAYS listen to the radio, because the whine of a supercharged V6 isn't all that attractive.

If I had a V8, I'd listen less, but nothing makes me drive faster than music.

She has a serious problem with "Tuner" cars. They have been invading our area ever since those movies came out, and most of them have no common sense on the road. You gotta admit, it is kind of annoying to get trapped behind a Ford Festiva sporting a coffee can muffler (which does nothing but increase the amount of smoking motor oil coming out the exhaust) and a rear wing that's double the height of the car.

Clutch, you have done a beautiful job of restoring that car. Being an automotive technician I can truly appreciate what you've done. My first new car was a '67 GT Fastback. Looking back now I can only lament the fact I didn't keep it.

Looking at your pics, I can see you had to do an inordinate amout of work in restoring that car. And knowing that you did the majority of it youself gives you a tremendous amout of satisfaction. Yea, I'm a car guy who would love to do something like that but, unfortunately, I don't have the resources. So I go to the shows just to marvel at what people like you have done.

And, yes, I have heard those kind of comments too. I think it comes from jealousy. I have, on occasion, politely asked those nimrods, "What do you know about restoration?". It's usually met with silence or some stupid blabbering about helping their cousin put an engine in a Chevy.

Anyway, don't let the morons get to ya. I think your wifey handles it very well, but I won't tell.

Oh, lest I forget, that is a beatiful car.

Actually I made the "Tuner" refrence. Around here "Tuner" is the politically correct term for a Ricer.

I'm sure people were annoyed with me when I was running around in my Mustang IIs with loud exhaust and blairing stereos. That's what I did when I was their age because I couldn't afford a better car. I give them credit for their enthusiasim, I just don't share their taste. My wife as I said is not so forgiving.

Those are good pictures. Now that I can see the car better, I'm more impressed. Nice paint job, looks good and wet. So I take it you work at a body shop? And is that why you still have the motor to finish up?

No, I'm an electronics tech/software engineer/network support... etc, I'm a new age handyman for an electronic world.

I don't work in a bodyshop, but in order to get my car done, I had to show up every day after my normal job and put another 6 hours on the stang per night. That lasted for 3 months, with my daughter pitching in over the summer vacation. My car is also the only one to ever leave that bodyshop in one piece. They wound up perminantly closing it down 2 weeks after my car was finished because they didn't have a proper paint booth.

I did learn enough from both working there, and researching the proper bodywork methods to make sure mine was done right that I feel confident that I can do the next one myself. (The next one is a 1968 Dan Gourney Special Cougar currently sinking into the ground in my back yard)

where i come from, Clayton County GA alot of "Tuner" vehicles are made into Ricers by crazy and retarded ass mexicano's and chinko's. thus why i said, i wish i could drive around in a TrackHoe or a D-12 Dozer and flatten all those crappy things and once again beable to drive without hearing entire cars vibrating from "coffee can" exhaust pipes and ghetto mounted 15" subwoofers .
