Major LAN in Chicago!

We've been tossing around the idea of doing a major LAN in Chicago, and we'd like to see what kind of interest we have. A spot has been picked out, 200 max. capacity room to LAN in, rooms are $79 a night. If we can rent 30 rooms, the LAN room is free! That equates to probably 90 descenters (I've seen rooms with 7 descenters in them
, which is probably more than we can get, but that is what we are attempting to find out. Free LAN room = small LAN fee. Having to pay for the LAN room = bigger LAN fee. What we are hoping to get is maybe 40 people at $25 to $30 a head for the weekend, to cover the cost of the 200 person room. Hopefully, we can get enough interest to pull this off!
We're shooting for a LAN comparable to Califest or Suncoast, smaller wouldn't be worth the money it would cost, as a small private LAN in someone's home is not an option. If we can get 40 or more interested in doing this, its a go.
We have not set a date yet, as this is still early in the planning stages, but how many people would be interested in coming? I know there are alot of descenters within hours of Chicago! Hopefully Rook or Pun will be able to get me some more information and some pictures of the spot. It does ahve a restaurant and a nearby strip joint, if thats your thing
Please let me know if you are interested!!
There is also a 50 person room that as of now I don't have alot of information on, but we're hoping to draw more than 50!!

Oh hell yeah - I'd be there. I've gone to several small LAN's in Indiana and Michigan, so I know there are a lot of potential LAN'ers in the area. Keep us posted.

Awesome, I was counting on a few of you that have replied being interested
Clutch, I may have to take you up on that offer, or bribe Krom into helping out.
Testi, I am on your way, I live a few minutes off of I-80, straight shot to chi-town. We can hook up if you'd like.
So far that is 11 people, (include me, pun, rook, and whitewater as definates) on the first day. not bad!

If this did shape up to be one of the megaLANs of close to 100 people, it would be hard for me to stay away. The dates of the LAN would of course matter a lot. I don't care how much the LAN fee is, however, since my plane tickets, hotel room, food, and monitor rental costs are usually 10x as much as any reg. fee.

IF you don't smoke, or at least don't smoke in the car on the way, it's a date.
That reminds me..I go to my dads every so often, he lives off 80..what exit are you? I can just drag my 'puter with me.

i live nearest to the Brecksville road, route 21 & 77 exit. i also live by the exit for route 8 & twinsburg, but that one is a little further. about 20 minutes.

assuming califest really is over with, how would sometime in may-june sound? that way also we wouldnt have to worry about people chickening out because of chicago winters
i'll have to talk with my associates more about it and reply later on though. Date is completely up in the air right now.

Out of towners shouldn't worry about monitor and computer rentals... If there is enough interest I will rent a van for the weekend so I can drag my "spare" systems out for those of you who have to fly in and can't bring one.

Speaking of spare systems, I have 2 amd800's and 2 19" monitors that can be brought along. If both 19" get asked for, I'll be dragging my 21" with me I suppose

Hehe, Homewood dude, it's 30mins south of downtown Chicago. I57, I80, I90 and I294 are all within a 2 minute drive from the hotel. Midway and O'Hare airports are about 30 minutes away.
There is a restaurant in the hotel. Bennigans and a half dozen fast food joints are all within a 5 minute walk.
For those of you that would bring family downtown Chicago is a short train ride or drive. The indiana dunes (lakefront beaches etc) are very close as are southern Michigan and northern Indiana. Basically there is a ton of stuff within striking distance to keep non-flying peeps entertained.

And it helps that my sister lives on some apartments near lakeshore on the south side. I have a place to stay for free!

well, now that the rumors of califest being dead are proved to be false, we may be moving the date to spring or something. i'll talk to the guys about it and see whats up, my goal was never to rival dan's LAN, if he goes summer we'll go spring, if he goes spring we'll go summer.
definately still on though, and i plan to party at both

Sarge,
I fell off the back of some truck. It was really kinda odd.
kur, yah, I'm still in Chicago, I actually lived down in Chicago Heights for a bit...ugh!, but I guess I sorta know the area down by homewood. Should be groovy! I wouldn't mind staying at the hotel either. Better than driving back and forth. So count me in, I'll be there!

its more likely that califest will be on spring break next year, going by the conversation me and rock had. couldnt say for sure though.
