I wonder how many people will continue to live down along the gulf states if this prediction is true:

"Brace yourselves: Scientists say 65 million Americans living on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts should expect weather like this for another 30 years. Maybe more."

How many time does ones house have to be destroyed or damaged before people give up? More importantly how long before the insurance companies just stop insuring property? The question for a long term investor is, where will coast property move to if coastal areas become too expensive to live on?

People down there should just start building sub-terrainian homes so all they have to repair is a stub up above ground. Either that or start building homes out of materials that can actually stant up to a hurricane.

First, the millions of people in the area are not going to move, even if ten category five hurricanes are forecast to strike the same area within ten days. People will adjust, building stronger houses, etc.

Second, the insurance companies will not stop providing their service. I'm pretty sure the cost of having insurance will rise, but after a point, the insurance company will start putting restrictions on what homes can be insured, i.e. has the house been certified to hold up against 150 mph winds, etc?

Third. have you ever seen the beautiful women at the beach? Once they move, we all move.

Yep, just follow the chicks. And uhhh, building a house that could stand up to being under water and wind gusts or tornados up to 200 MPH would just make too much sense for americans to do it in storm prone costal regions.
