Can't dial in to 56k while in Suse 9.1

I was able to dial in on Mandrake 9.1 once before with the same serial Creative modem, DE5621. However I used the dialer from both Suse and KDE and I am unable to browse the net.

It dials in, I see it working, but when the sqwack completes my OS and its programs cant use it. So I hang up.

I read the log and it says something that PPP isnt enabled. How do I enable it? I never had to do that before!

Heres the log:

you need to double check if you need to use a script in order to log on to PPP from your ISP, or are even using PPP.

I checked the ISP website, and all it has is instructions for Red Hat 5.2. Their dialer is different and offers the PPP option while in both of the other dialers there is no way IF its using PPP at all. So im going to restart now and try one more time with the instructions.

red hat 5.2? Dang that's old!

In Suse, did you check out the options for ppp in YaST?

I did, but I found nothing that somehow relates to PPP other than the modem and ISP config.

When reinstalling SMPPPD, it hangs. I dont know why. Im gonna try something else and if all else fails ill just format then restart.

Edit: I fixed that part, but im back to where I started. Same damn log and nowhere for me to enable FSKING PPP!

Same thing happens in 8.2.

Any other ideas? My ISP obviously has PPP since I use that in Windows.

From the log, it looks like its using terminal server before using PPP.

Are you trying this as root? I have noticed that suse has a lot of things locked down for normal users by default. Does your user have permission to use the device?

EDIT--> That is probably not it. never mind :?
