What could possibly be causing CD I/O errors?

Post by Xamindar »

Ok, I have changed everything in my computer (mobo, cpu, ram, hard drives, cdrom drives, drive cables) except the video, network, and sound card. Oh, and the case and power supply are still the same.

But I still get drive I/O errors which have made it very difficult to install both Linux and Windows XP.

Linux gives errors like this:
status=0x51 [ drive ready,seek complete,error]
error=0x50

Could my drive be dusty? Could it be caused by the power supply? Anyone have any ideas? :cry: :cry: :cry:

They did all come from the same pile of blanks. That's a good point, you are probably right. The windows xp install cd wouldnt even boot on my machine but would on my dads though. Maybe my drive just has less tollerance for errors.
