i still prefer opera, its simply the best. but hey an extra mozilla is allways on my hdd, cant hurt hehe. but why using firefox? its the stripped of browser from the mozilla suite right? why using only the browser when you can have the full paket for free? the mozilla email-client and the other tools are great too, why miss them.

Well, for starters some of that integrated crap gets in the way of apps we might be more comfortable using. Such as that whole IRC thing mozilla had. I'd want mirc to open and that bs would open instead.
You also don't have the problem of uninstalling every single app in the suite when you just want to uninstall one thing. Seldom comes up, but that can be annoying.
I like this so far. Uninstalled Mozilla 1.6 for it and Thunderbird. Noticed some websites that previously had popups mozilla blocked were now getting popups through the filter SOO...this took care of that. Bastids!

the pop-up blocker is too agressive.
I'd stick to 0.9.3 for now.
The primary reason to use firefox/thunderbird: the mozilla suite will eventually go away, and get replaced by individual the apps.

I strongly doubt that.

Thats why you do a custom install. You know, so you can tell it not to install programs that you don't want. (Personally, all I have installed is the browser and the mail program, and DOM. Thats it.)

Thats an issue with the uninstaller. However, the wonderful part is, you can tell it not to nuke your profile so you can re-install, choose what you want and don't want, and you're good to go.

You probably added those sites to your allowed list and forgot about it.

I seriously hope not. FireFox is so damned limited, its not even funny. The majority of the features in Mozilla (full ver) aren't even THERE in FF without having to download extentions. The layout (as of 0.9.3) is ass UGLY (looks like the bastard child of Mozilla and IE) and it actually uses
more RAM than Mozilla itself! I like the concept of FF, but they seriously need to go back to the drawing board.

http://www.mozilla.org/roadmap.html
Focus development efforts on the new standalone applications: the browser currently code-named Firefox, the Mozilla Thunderbird mail/news application, and standalone composer and other apps based on the the new XUL toolkit used by Firefox and Thunderbird. We aim to make Firefox and Thunderbird our premier products.
...
Firefox is simply smaller, faster, and better -- especially better not because it has every conflicting feature wanted by each segment of the Mozilla community, but because it has a strong "add-on" extension mechanism. We recognize that different users need many different features; such demand is legitimate on its face. Attempting to "hardwire" all these features to the integrated application suite is not legitimate; it's neither technically nor socially scaleable.
What's good for the browser is good for the mail application, too. Mozilla's integrated mail has many fine features, but it suffers from too many integration points with the other apps, and it remains a complicated front end maintained by too few people, most of whom have different day jobs now.

I do custom installs on every app and at the time I didn't figure I wouldn't need them at some point. Later came the problems.

Yup.

I don't add sites to my allowed list. As far as I'm concerned any site outside my usual browsing radius is on my shitlist.
