Dell PSU

got a friend with a Dell 8200 PC and it gives funny results when booting into XP.

i ran through all the checks and stuff to figure out what the problem was.....finally i made it down to checking the PSU for bad voltages

sure enough!

12+VDC when HDD, and CD-ROM go active drops to anywhere between 9.5 and 11.3 VDC

3.3+ VDC drops to 1.93 - 2.2 VDC

5+ VDC drops to 3.5 - 4.1 VDC

so i told him to call and RMA the POFS and to make sure he calls me when the new one comes in.

And your observation is?

Don't buy Dell?

IIRC - don't Dell do scum-sucking proprietary PSU's with some cables switched, and matching motherboards.... so it *LOOKS* like you can swap out a DELL PSU for a standard variety model.... but if you go ahead and do that you fry the motherboard and probably everything on it?

Okay, enough. I see where this is going and it's looking like bad weather on the horizon.

Stop making me moderate here Ace. I do so little till you start lame threads like this.
