Win2k, Dx9.0c, and Repair Installs

Well, I just had a ton of fun after I attempted to install the Dx9c runtime on my comp. After I rebooted it kept giving me the good ole' KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error. Fun huh? And on top of that, attempting to boot into anything other than safe mode with command prompt generated the same error, so I couldnt get networking to xfer my files to another computer in case I needed to nuke it.

however, thankfully, after a few hours of futilly wrestling with thw safe mode schtik, I gave in, popped my CD in the drive, booted to setup, and did a repair install to C:\WINNT.

Everything works fine now. DX9c even installed perfectly this time. The Repair Install even found some of my files on drive K that I had been missing. Specifically the entire first season of Enterprise.

Anyway, that concludes my rant, and here is my one question: What the heck does KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED mean in detail, and why the hell did installing dx9c trigger it perpetually?

It didnt occur in any specific file. If the blue screen had given me a file that caused the stop I would have had something more to work with.
