Well the divorce is over, I got the kids, I got the house, I got the fundz ... I wanna move on and start a new life for myself and my children. That includes moving out of this home we are in.
We were visiting some friends the other day and my daughter found this awesome home. It is huge (3700 sq ft) compared to our existing home (2000 sq ft), has a 2 acre yard, balconies on the front and back, an extra apartment on the side complete with its own kitchen/dining room/bedroom/bath, a huge recreation room, a large basement, and on and on ...
Our home is now on the market and priced to sell. Wish us luck plz ...
Hopefully we will be
Trading this ...
For this ...

Sweet house you're looking at, good luck!
You sure get a lot of house for your dollar down there, the one you're selling would go for close to 300 grand here!

$170K for 2000 sq. ft. house in a 2 acre yard?! Holy crap. Are those Earth dollars?
This explains why I live in a studio apartment. Here's what you get in Palo Alto for over $830K. It's a whopping 890 sq. ft. house that's 61 years old:
Details here.

MehYam, it looks like that one is about to keel over in the next bay-area earthquake.

Wow, that's an insane price, M!
And Ice, $170K is like nothing for that house. Is it built on an indian graveyard or something?

No, the old house (2000 sqft) I am selling for 170k, the new one is 240k (3700 sqft).
/me pitches Huntsville ...
Yeah, real estate around here is dirt cheap. In fact, the cost of living in Huntsville is among the lowest of cities in the U.S. Huntsville is a beautiful city with lots of mountains, trees, water, nice people, and very strong technical employment. I feel really lucky that my parents moved us here when I was a kid. I can think of no better place to live given my tastes.
Another reason for the low cost is that an F4 tornado plowed through the neighborhood in 1995. This house wasn't touched but the yard lost about an acre of pine trees. Many folks didn't rebuild and there are about 10 lots still empty here. That depressed the already low real estate prices.
Lan Party? Heck why not ... The rec room alone could hold 25 people if we had tables. Plus, there is plenty of room for folks to crash. That is not a bad idea ... Only problem would be the balconies ... you guys would get drunk and fall off of them

YeeHaw!!! Six days on the market and POOF!
The house has shown 11 times in 6 days. I got an offer last night and turned it down because it was too low. I got another offer today and it is exactly what I was asking for the house. I now have a signed contract on it.
So, tomorrow we make an offer on the LAN PARTY HOUSE!!! Wish us more luck guys

San Fran Bay Area, I think it's the most expensive housing market in the universe. BTW, price on that baby just went up to nearly $840K.
There are also the famous stories about the bidding wars on homes here in the silicon valley - i.e. houses that sold for 1 million over their asking price, but since the .com burst, I've been hearing much less of that. Oddly, house prices are their highest ever, although I think that will correct itself soon.

Yep, my brother lives in Berkley and unlike the rest of the U.S. where we ask a price and hope to get an offer close to it or if you're really lucky someone offers to pay the asking price, when you buy a house out there the seller picks a listing price and people bid
up from there!

...and Berkeley is in the East Bay, which is considered "cheap"!
A lot of people are leaving the Bay Area, and rents are down (I'm paying $1140 for a 625 sq ft one bedroom apartment - that's actually a deal), so this can't keep up.
