Hehe, the "bad" powerups in there rule. EVIL SQUARES! And you can get a pretty darn big square if you keep picking up the "big square" ones...

Because it doesn't check for that Ace.
I would think it's quite rare you could have a red square completely obscured by a black square though...

well, i hate to say....it got me 4 times in a row with a red square COMPLETELY under a black square and moving at the SAME speed!!

Indeed. The levels advance when you pick up so many squares, but if you only pick up powerups, it stays on level 1.
Cheese + patience + luck > skill. At least, in my case.
Only, it does get hard. After about 11 "minisquare" powerups, the square totally disappears. Happened around 15k that game. That's when things got interesting.
