Kohan II

Kohan II is easily one of the greatest games of 2004. Not only does it distinguish itself in the tidal wave of other strategy games, but it fixes RTS tedium. This is 'The Descent' of the RTS genre folks. You NEED to try out this game. Company System>Clickfests.

Find out why.

He's pointing out the fact that you're telling people to play more D3, then putting forward another game with which to consume their time and yours. Seems like a valid enough point to me.

No. I'm telling people to play more of D1, D2, and D3. I play Descent constantly, with or without the fools of this community. People DO need to play more Descent, but perhaps not exclusively.

That thread says nothing about other good games does it? It just says all of you need to actually play Descent. Seems like a pretty valid enough point to me. Variety = Good.

Kohan II is simply another option worth considering. Some people don't focus on just one game. Considering how rare it is to get a good Descent game going, other options will inevitably be needed.

Heh. Why did I even bother posting this thread? Typical hostile responses from the DBB.

That invalidates your point in the thread that whuppinboy pointed out. You can't bemoan that not enough people are playing descent, then go and admit that another game is needed to kill time with because there isn't enough people playing.

Its like telling a person that he needs to lose weight, then the next day introduce him to new ways of getting fat.

Like, WTF?

If you had posted about Kohan II before making the other post, no one would've complained.

Oh No! The man recommended a game to you! Quick, flame him!

By pointing out that he wishes you'd play more D3, is he saying that you cannot play any other games?
Anyone who says "yes" forfeits their right to life.

Quit looking for excuses to flame someone, you pathetic worms.

What point did he point out? He gave nothing but a link to my excellent thread. My thread about Descent has nothing to do with Kohan II. Play both and shuddup.

Funny how we complain that no one trys Descent, when we dismiss a game we have never played. ANOTHER FANTASY GAEM!1111 LOL PWN3D!11

Its funny how most of the people failing, are the people who never play anymore.

GG.

i don't flame people, hell i lurk in here more than i post, but given your recent tendencies towards pointing fingers at people of the Descent community for not playing enough of any Descent series; i couldn't help but notice the two-facedness (yes, it's not a real word but i like it) by praising the virtues of a game as a must play over a game you want more people to dedicate their time to, just doesn't make any sense.

seriously, the game could be crap once it's gone gold and you've already formed an opinion on it. not that there's anything wrong with that but you're screaming at the community to "play more Descent, email me, im me" yadda yadda but yet from your post about Kohan you give the impression that Descent has now become a red-headed stepchild to you.

a little consistency is all i ask for in people :P

nothing wrong with playing games other than Descent but when you try, and i do mean "try" in the lightest term cuz people on this board are pretty thick-skinned (well, some of them anyway) to make yourself out to be the almighty gung-ho would-be savior of a game and then post something like this, i tend to label you as a poser :D

i still play, maybe not as much as you obviously, but i still fly the mines.

and what are most of the people failing at? living up to your expectations? oops, sorry. never got into this game to impress anyone with how much time i spend on-line shooting lasers and firing concs.

LOL. I have owned the game for over a week. It has not gone gold. IT WAS RELEASED WEEKS AGO! I have played plenty of Kohan II. Did you even read the post on my site?

It has gotten excellent reviews. Have you been paying attention at all?

I'm not posing to be a savior to Descent. I AM. In just little under 3 weeks I will be hosting an all night lan sporting ALL OF THE DESCENT GAMES. I have converted countless non believers to the glory of 6 DOF. We have played D1 or D3 almost every single day for the PAST MONTH.

Anything else? Or shall I deal with more randomly generated filth?

Too easy. Just as I thought.

yes, why is this the Descent for the RTS folks? just looks like any cookiecutter RTS to me. what makes it stand out, and is there something that makes it descentlike?

D2 may be played. Although it it is too difficult to get it running correctly for everyone. We have played some of it in the past few weeks. But mostly we've been sticking to old skool D1.

It is probably the most unique RTS on the market. Much like how Descent is the most unique shooter. Instead of recycling game mechanics, it does something totally different. I doubt anyone from this board will even give it a try, but it was worth putting out there.

I take it you've never played Homeworld. That's (as far as I know) the only fully 3D RTS. And not many people really play it, same as D3. :P

i must say, i do pay attention to any game that is reviewed as not having the best of graphics, but has great gameplay.

but unfortunately, the RTS genre soured for me. C&C Red Alert (not the sequal) was the last RTS i played and enjoyed. i've not bothered with anything since (yes, incl the recent warcrafts). i'd like to get into homeworld, but strangely i find it too hard (!).
I doubt anyone from this board will even give it a try, but it was worth putting out there.
indeed, it was worth it.
but if no-one here at the DBB tries it, i'd sooner blame your market targeting: descent is nothing like this game.

you know what my favourite RTS game is?

battlezone.

now there's a RTS game somewhat similar to descent.

Roid, Age of Mythology was a pretty good one, and right now I'm waiting on Battle for Middle-Earth, which looks amazing :).

You know, another great game that is overlooked and underappreciated is Earth2150 The graphics are still great even by todays standards, the map editor is fantastic and soooo easy to use.

Yet theres like, no support for it, patches are soooo hard to find. Maps are getting scarce, but you can make your own - its alot of fun over lan too. Single player is HARD tho, even on easy.

There is a sequal out, but I've never been able to find it.
