Looks like this is one helluva bang per buck core. Only shame is, no X86-64 enabled on it. Oh well, maybe I'll just get an A64 3000+ instead, they're only $30 more over here.

Impresive...

The Athlon 64 would have more cache anyhow, which would probably help the overall performance. Especially at 2.5GHz.

So now im confused. What is the platform of choice now, the 754 or 939? And which platform would be good for gaming, and which one for CAD? It seems the difference between the two in how they work on gaming or on CAD is miniscule.

The 939 is the preferred platform - 754 is the budget line.

No - not miniscule: Socket 939 offers dual channel memory. Socket 754 is single channel. The bandwidth of the Socket 754 models is lower than that of a dual channel solution, but the on-die memory controller and very fast HyperTransport system bus make up for it to some degree.

Definitely nothing wrong with a socket 754 system.

well no, nothing wrong with it, its the new "Duron" of the latest chips - regardless, if you want performance - get the 939. If you want cheap - get 754

Even worse... my HyperTransport system once got three chicks pregnant... in one night. Beware.

Except nobody EVER puts a new CPU in an old motherboard.

Oh, sorry, that's right: EXCEPT IDIOTS.
