D3edit crashes when...

...I try to import a PCX for terrain. If it doesn't crash, it seriously distorts the terrain. Any fixes for this? Verisons I should have?

Make sure you have the latest Atan version and export your PCX graphic with the following requirements:
- Grayscale (256 colors)
- 256x256 pixels
- Version 5 PCX file
Missing one of these?
Irfanview can help.

Thx, fixed. Apparently the pic wasn't saved as greyscale. Where can I get the latest version of d3edit by atan?

I think
Levels4You has it.

EDIT: one last annoying question
Does anyone have a tutorial for the bend function?

Thunderbird's working on getting them posted at PD. He recently gave a link to his own personal directory where he has some of them uploaded for the moment; I can't remember which thread it was in, though.

http://www.dfiles.de/download/d3/utilit ... dita_i.zip
That's the latest one (Levels4You has the G version), the alpha build with an in-progress B-Node system and terrain features no other version has (I had asked OtherOne to add them, but he ignored me every time).

I use this version all the time. Be warned. It crashes A LOT! Save your work everytime you make a change etc.
One thing I found that reduces the crashing is keeping your system Defraged. This seems to have taken the number of crashes down to one per day.
Other than that it it runs great. Oh, one thing. This verson won't let you modify doors. If you need to move a door for some reason (which occationally happens to me due to a lack of plannning) you will need to use an older version. The default version works fine for this.
Thanks for linking him Sky.

Sorry Sky, it wasn't intentional. Other features just seemed to be more important at the time.

You could've at least said so, and then "maybe I'll get to it later". Not once did you respond when I pointed out multiple times that D3Edit lacked those features. So yes, that clearly gave me the impression that you could not have cared less.

Wow, Otherone comes back and immediately gets bitched at. Just like old times.

It's not bitching.

Actually, anyone who plays Entropy as much as Sky used to is entitled to, uh, complain as much as he wants
. It's not like he used the U word.
On a serious note, is anyone here in touch with Atan? I've been playing around with the 03_3G version and I *really* think his code should be merged with the master source archive at Warpcore.

Atan quit this BB over people's sentiments about Subway Dancer. You might find him on
descentforum.de.
Oh, and by the way, UNDO UNDO UNDO!!!!

Atan's also hanging out at PD.

Atan still works on the improvement of D3Edit
So there is a newer "internal" version than the one that can be downloaded at this moment.

Thanks. I knew he had quit the DBB but I'm glad to hear he hasn't bailed completely out of the descent community.

TB must have given them to Solrazor, I've heard nothing.

I never got any tutorials.
Somewhere in the stacks of CD-ROMs I have a collection of D3Edit tutorials gathered from GameEdit and the ancient D3Edit forum on Tricordnet. Can't be bothered to go hunting for it right now, though.

I've already ICQ'd him telling him I'll put them up on my site if he wants. Not sure if he got the message though.
Maybe he wants to create a dedicated section?
