How much does a garbage man earn annually?

I thought I heard garbage men earn about 40 or 50 thousand dollars a year. My girlfriend says that's way too high.

I tried to look it up, but I can't find any numbers on it?

Does anyone know? thanks

And NO, I'm not looking into that particular field. Even if you made 100k a year, you'd still smell like garbage ;p

i think they make a decent amount (as far as non-skill intensive jobs go; im not even sure if thats the correct way of putting it, but you know what i mean) because of the fact that its not a very diserable job.

they work for the government, so they get paid fairly well plus they have wonderful benefits. i imagine its like 40k a year or more plus factor in the benefits and its probably worth about 80-100k a year to be a garbage man. if you've got a few years on the job its probably more than that too.

What ever it turns out to be - it aint enough.

Garbage men are among the most important members of society.

When they go on strike - health becomes an issue within two weeks. When doctors go on strike, the death rate actually drops!! (New York, 1969)

Not necessarily. The garbage companies here in Atlanta are all privatized. I suspect they make a decent wage though.

WOw. I can see why they should be paid a lot for their job though, it has to be done and I don't wanna do it.

Mobius: I don't think doctors go on strike that frequently. Usually they don't belong to a union.

Nurses can and do go on strike however.

It was in your hometome DCrazy. Pretty sure it was 1969. And yes - all doctors in public hospitals went on strike. That includes surgeouns too. And yes, the death rate dropped significantly during the strike.

I looked it up before posting. I meant that it doesn't happen often. In most states, doctors can be told "take a hike" whenever their employers feel like it.

The question is, are you trying to be funny or you just can't spell? ;)

It was an awful job. At least when the garbage men actually had to lift a finger to get the trash into their trucks.

Now, they operate a robotic arm that grabs your garbage container and empties it into the back of the truck.

Pretty weak.

They don't have a robotic arm garbage truck where I live. Of course on Junk Day, where you can put old broken and/or pissed on furniture, and other ★■◆● like pissed on carpets and chairs out in the front lawn, the have a huge robotic arm/crane pick ALL that ★■◆● up and put it in the back of the truck. That thing is powerful too.

we got the garbage bin arms here.

i hear from my ex-garby ex-alcoholic source: garbos are constantly drunk while on the job. EVEN while driving the trucks.

just poke your head in the driving cabin one day. *_* woa.

100k a year if you work in a union....roflmao
I'm moving in with you Top :P
Pittsburgh, PA: Feb 9, 2002

Garbage men
$12.50 an hour, $26,000 a year

Emergency medical technicians make $9 an hour to start, and paramedics make $11 an hour. <---( I think these guys need to go on strike)

The city workers that brave the cold and snow to keep the roads safe for you make moreâ?¦ $15.23 an hour, almost $32,000 a year.

Animal control officers make $14.83 an hour or $30,000

Heavy equipment operators $16.74 an hour, almost $35,000 a year.

City electricians, the highest paid, $17.65 an hour almost $37,000 a year.
Up here in rural PA they work for private contractors and get about 8.00 an hour and no benefits. But the good thing is they never go hungry

You think im joking? My estimate was too high, but there was a strike last fall where they asked for 70,000 a year!
