I want to do this:

Code: Select all

VGA Monitor ---------------- VGA Port on FX5200
                                |
VGA Monitor --- VGA->DVI --- DVI Port on FX5200
Using something similar to this: http://shop.vetcosurplus.com/catalog/im ... gamale.jpg

But I know VGA is Analog and DVI is digital..... will going from Digital->Analog work??

you can get DVI-VGA adaptors, matter of fact, that pic is one of a DVI-VGA adaptor.

IIRC, DVI ports also have pins for the analog signal.

I have one of those for my R9800. And it doesn't exactly work the way you think it would. it's actually a DVI -> digital CRT adapter. course the one you order might be different.

fliptw remembers corrcet, the DVI connector carries the VGA signal -- just use the adapter.

Because your canadian and that's just the way it is :)

I have a couple of multi mon systems here and I use the adaptor and there are no issues.. other then sticking off the back a bit further..

edit You do have to boot with that monitor connected to the DVI adaptor for it to work.. Maybe that's the problem. You seem to have a lot of problems with adaptors ferno [/inside joke]
