IRC ports.

Post by Mr. Perfect »

Is it possible to use a port other then 6667 to connect to standard IRC servers? The college network has all IRC locked out of 6667, presumably because of the masses of virus/worms that use it. Can I use another port instead, or do I have to go around campus and destroy every moron's NIC with a hammer to get the ban lifted? ;)

Ah, ★■◆●. Ports 6660-6665 as well as 6670 where refused, so aparently shadowfire doesn't permit connections on those. And ports 6666-6669 are all blocked.

Alright, I found some alternate ports Shadowfire uses. For ports 25, 110, and 443 I get something like the following
7:13-59 *** Connect retry #1 trigun.shadowfire.org (25)
-
7:14-21 *** [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
7:14-21 *** Disconnected
I take it these ports don't work because of something on my end?

mrp. send-port and receive port dont have to be the same. you can send on 7000 (client) to a irc-server on 6667 (wich is default for irc), but you need a irc-client that supports it.

how about trying a proxy or packet capture app to reroute the ports?
