So for all of you that thought the shark depicted in Jaws was mere speculation...think again:

Brian de Jager, a friend of Mrs Webb's and one of the 15 local people who witnessed the attack, told the Guardian: "I took my usual walk and I saw Tyna swimming. The next minute I saw this fin coming through the water and then the discolouration in the water. It was so quick, it all took place in only 30 seconds

Craig Lambinon, a spokesman for the National Sea Rescue Institute, said crews later spotted the shark from the air. "The shark is bigger than the helicopter ... it is huge," he told the South African Press Association.

They were also debating whether to stop tourists feeding sharks, a practice that may have encouraged the animals to linger in the waters.
What in the... Even the seagulls around here get testy when they're used to the tourists feeding them.

They should cease feeding tourists to the shark Immediatley! Obviously the sharks are having a difficult time telling the difference between locals and tourists :P

around here (brisbane) swimming is not recommended near the islands, especially not on the sea-side, because there are so many ★■◆●ing sharks.

Hey, all they want is the cream filling! She was 77 anyways, she lived a long life, no big loss :P

Whatever happend to personal responsibility? Leave the shark alone, he was only hungry.

If I got killed, I'd rather it be in the natural order of things then to die in some petty human way :P

Other witnesses said the shark had been six metres (19ft) long and circled Mrs Webb before attacking.
Jaws was 25ft.

I don't have Guiness in front of me, but I seem to remember the record find being 27 feet. So 19 feet is big, yes, gargantuan, no.

I used to study sharks and read books about them a lot when I was younger, but still, I would not go swimming in chummed waters, or anywhere near there. Sharks do not target humans, but if you are bleeding or act like wounded fish they won't care about the difference, food is food. :)
