This needs to stop...

Ok, this has a lot to do with the other thread I posted but it needs to be figured out one way or another. The last three days the DBB has been horrendously slow. Sometimes not even loading at all.
Its gotten to the point where I'm almost tempted to change home pages and not even bother reading the DBB anymore. That probably wont happen, its just that bad. Try to post replies to threads that are taking ridiculously long to load and then having to wait 5-10 minutes just to post that reply.
Then as if by miracle the DBB is lightning fast again several hours later only to be slowed down while I'm surfing it. Like I stated before, I know it isn't me because every other website loads like butter. Could it possibly be a matter of too much traffic on the site? I'm not sure. We've always had quite a few reading the DBB at any given time and never has it been this bad.
I have broadband, 4.5mb down and use Firefox 1.0, it shouldn't be doing this. Hope this can be identified and fixed eventually. I know you didn't see any problems before Jim, but obviously something isn't right based on how many other people are having similar problems.

I'm not sure. I haven't used IE for almost a year now for browsing.
I didn't have this problem with Mozilla and I didn't have this problem with the beta of Firefox 1.0 either so...
It sounds plausible that it might be a browser issue. I mean, if you visit the DBB 10 times a day and I only visit maybe 4 or 5 times, you'd think that it would be more likely that you'd have problems.
This current viewing session I've had has probably been the best I've had it in the last half week. Thats why this is so annoying though because sometimes its just fine and other times it just refuses to load the DBB at all. Then inbetween the pages load slowly or don't even display, they just won't load. Here lately the majority of the time the DBB is either dead slow or won't even load at all.

no issues...

I've experienced this repeatedly in the last few weeks.
Mozilla 1.7.1, 56k
It usually happens in the late afternoon for me. Though it might be helpful when this happens, to do a traceroute to the server and see where its lagging
for you.
For those that don't know what I'm talking about goto your command prompt/DOS prompt (worded differently, depending if your running Win9x or NT/2000/XP) and type "tracert
www.descentbb.net" and copy and paste the results here in a quote or code tag. (Note: to copy and paste text from a DOS window, you have to right-click and select "Mark". Then just highlight the text like normal. Then right-click and select copy. Then paste the text into here.
That, or download a program like "Ping Plotter" or "Neotrace" and take a screenshot of the results and post it here.
That being said, it could very well be something as simple as heavy CPU usage causing it instead of lack of bandwith. If you can Jim, check for any logs indicating that.

Took me a while to get back, but I tried with IE6 SP2 and the same thing is happening there as well. Initially was working fine, then I tried again after dinner and the DBB wouldn't even load. Checked Firefox again and wouldn't load there either.
So, I'm more inclined to believe its a server issue somewhere.

or rather Apache + PHP + Mysql PHPBB, as PHPbb isn't built using MyPHP. just install the above four, and then import the DB dump from your host.
Personally, I'd just go for a debian install.

That could mean anything from heavy CPU usage, lack of HDD space, to lack of available bandwith. Personally, I think its the space issue coming back to haunt us again.
It took me TEN MINUTES just to load this thread where it would usually take MAYBE five seconds on my 56k. Thats how bad its getting.
