As the title states, I'm looking for a QUIET IDE hard drive of somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 Gigs, give or take as many as say, 10 gigs. This is to replace an aging 12 Gig drive in an older computer of mine thats getting kinda noisy.

Drive must be standard IDE. I will accept laptop hard drives if you can somehow find a kit to mount the laptop hard drive in a standard hard drive bay.

Again, I'm looking for a QUIET hard drive. It does NOT need to be high performance 7200rpm model.

Thanks.

I have a 30gb 5400rpm Quantum Fireball here, its pretty quiet (dont remember how loud it is exactly, gonna have to plug it in to find out). I'm gonna get some new hard drives tomorrow, so as soon as i get the new ones installed and all the info off the old one I'll let you know.

There are many new 40GB IDE drive that use the quiet fluid bearing tech, such as the WD Caviar line and some Seagate drives. Look around for something like that.

Just plugged in the Fireball here and its louder than I remember (it has a pretty noticable hum to it), so I doubt it'll be quiet enough for your needs. Sorry.
