Hey everyone,


Well, I want to make my puter look a little nicer and add a bit of performance. One problme I am having right now is heating so I figured a new case would do nicely. I'm looking at this at the moment:

I want something in gun-metal or silver and some nice blue lighting for some cool eye candy. The fan on the front and the fan on the side look really easy to manage and maintain. I also like the glass door so I don't necessarily have to rip the door off to make certain my fans are always functioning. I tend to keep the door off from mine which causes dust particles to clog up the fans. However, I look inside my case nearly every day due to me making sure different things are opperating normally.


I am also looking into an illumnated keyboard. One problem I have is that at night when I am very tired I can't see certain keys and I suck at typing during the late hours. So if the lights are out, I have no vision. Thus I was looking at this:

It looks like the most trustworthing of the current illuminated keyboards. The keys are also closer together, although I have big hands so I don't really mind that, I like the simply eligant design and I really need a new keyboard (I have a really old cheepo, generic keyboard which I think is a 95 if I remember right. Anyway it is starting to get sticky on the buttons and is starting to go. It also complains if I press more than three keys.

I figured with all the blue lighting, I might throw this in:

I also have some other variouse blue lights, it would match my stereo, I have a glass stone I plan to shine a light through for some ambiance and a blue plasma lamp.

I guess I just am looking for a certain feel for my room. Figured I'm big time sci-fi nerd so I might as well make my room look a bit sci-fi.

Also, does anyone have any info on modding a laser mouse to have a blue laser? I remember hearing about someone who did that. Even if I could turn it purple or green that would be sweet!!

omg, he uses rice to power his pc too?!!?



thats a badass mousepad. if you play with the lights off anyway. i might have to get one to match my blue themed gaming area myself.

I assume you mean an optical mouse, rather than the MX1000 laser mouse. I put a blue LED in my MX300, but I dont necessarily recommend doing so. Blue light isnt picked up by the optical sensor as well as red light is so you have to use a high-quality mousepad (like my Everglide) to have it work like it should.

As far as modding it, its really not that hard. You just need a soldering iron and the brightest LEDs you can find. Heres a how-to for the MX300, but its pretty much universal I think: http://www.linkitch.dk/Guides/Mouse-Mod3/mouse3.htm

Removing and resoldering an LED to a circuit board is pretty easy.

To extract the LED, just turn it upside-down and clamp it (if you have one) and add solder to both leads quickly once it to temp. The LED will fall out.

Use a "solder sucker" or wick to clear the holes.
As stated, be sure of your polarity.

I recommend a Metcal over a Weller.

When clipping the leads down, avoid cutting into the wetting (the solder around the lead that should have the shape of Mt. Fuji and not a hershey's kiss.)




Ok.. just reread the instructions. I have one question, hth is replacing a PCB mounted LED with a soldered/taped LED NOT voiding the warranty????
OK, so Logitech has the plastic shield in place, and completely swapping it out is "OK" ???? LOL, their RMA dept isn't that dumb.

Use a heat gun with care and you should be able to get that plating off. When I say heat-gun, I don't mean the kind that could double as a turbine engine ok?? Get an air pen or better yet, barrow one. They're a bit pricey.
