When I try and use my joystick in D3, it gets stuck on one axis. Like, it will act as if I was twisting the joystick, but I'm not. I'd like to start using it to play D3, but it seems that its not working. On top of it all, I can't calibrate it anymore, because the "settings" tab in the gaming options screen has dissapeared. I use win98.Its a Logitech Extreme 3D pro.

EDIT: I use this joystick for combat Flight simulator 3, and it works great for that.

Heh, any kind of "3D Pro" and "Win98" is going to give trouble.

Do yourself a huge favour and upgrade your OS to XP Pro AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

In the meantime, do the following.

1) Uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

2) Increase the deadzone in D3 - and in the controller setup for stick twist. (In the D3 commandline it'll be "-deadzone0 0.1" Increase by a factor of 0.1 if need be.)

Here's my command line: -nointro -noouttragelogo -usesmoothing -framecap 0 -deadzone0 0.0 -playermessages -z32bit -nomusic -bumped

3) Not being able to calibrate the stick is the problem. D3 usually needs to experience teh full range of joystick movement before it works correctly. Same with the calibration in the drivers. You gotta get that ability back somehow.

But your averarching problem is that POS Windows OS. Windows 98 is crap. It is sh!t. It is hosed. It is useless. It hurts my brain to even contemplate how you can keep using it.

That must be a sarcastic remark because I was NEVER able to get my 3d pro working (digital mode) in win 98. And it only works half the time in XP. I have to alternate rebooting and unplugging it to get it working.

Did it work at first then suddenly stop working right or did it never work right to start with?

99% of old joystick problems stem from the soundcard joy/midi or overclocking the FSB.. not the joystick itself, the other 1% was user error

Kami, go into D3/Options/Config Controller and see what it says for "Bank". If it says "Z Axis" that's the problem. It's looking at the throttle, not the twist. Clear that setting, center the throttle lever on the stick and reconfig until it says "R Axis". It may take a little playing with.

LOL, you are probably right. I remimber the most talked about reason was the faster bus speeds (early athlon at the time I think). Somehow they prevented it from working. But also around that time I discovered Linux, and what do you know! It worked Great in Linux! Another strike against Microsoft for me.

I got two of these joysticks and I love'em!

Calibrating the logitech extreme 3d is easy, simply unplug it from the usb, wait a couple seconds, and plug it back in. Thats it , they are self calibrating.

Also if you go to the logitech site you can download any drivers or the removal tool which will completly wipe any previous installs of other joys which could interfere with your clean install of the joy your using now.

Also, this sounds like more your problem, Im sure you know if your throttle control is not centered when your configuring your bank control, d3 will detect the activated throttle as your choice. You have to clear it and keep centering the throttle on your stick till it doesnt detect it as active, then you'll be able to assign twist for it.
