Every one lies to a certain degree. If you say you don't, you are lying.

Other then you don't have to remember anything if you tell the truth. :P

I don't really tell the truth, but I don't lie either, I just don't tell anything.

I've lied through my back teeth at various points in my little life, but i don't feel the need for it anymore. I've not lied on line (except that i'm not Flabby, and not a chick).

The line Krom quoted is true, lying just makes a big mess of things.

Those of you that don't proclaim to be angels, whats your biggest lie?

Mine was telling somone i loved them when i most certainly didn't. (heh! it's amazing how much you confess when your cooking with wine and most of it goes down yer gullet)

Oh FC everybody says "I love you" when they don't. But that's a prime example of "the mess" that lying gets you into.

I think mentally healthy adults lie out of fear. Sometimes out of laziness or arrogance I suppose. As a parent, my kids' lies are very troubling. It seems to be a sign of some sort of fundamental barrier that exists in spite of my best efforts.

I lie in real life, to the suburbanite jocks in my town. The internet is a place to be honest, especially here.

I would lie to spare someones feelings but that's where I draw the line.
I found out a long time ago that if you tell the truth then it makes life easier.

To save yourself the agony of something you did?
To not hurt someone else's feeling even though it will hurt them more later on when they find out the truth.

Remember, lying isn't just covering up something, it's not telling the entire truth also.

I still stand by what I posted earlier. Everyone lies at some point in their life.

You tell me you don't lie to your kids? Yes son, Santa is real. <-- biggest lie there is.

I agree with Ferno, even though I do lie espcially when I'm in a depression. My case just goes to support the notion that most people lie out of the anger and/or fear that arises out of a sense of their own weakness.

I know people who rarely lie, but they aren't rude. Sheepdog people are masters at just shutting their mouth if they can't say something nice or if they must say something controversial or unkind they use an ultra-tactful code.

isn't that called 'social grace'?

the original intent of the poll was to determine online honesty... which none of us can prove. it popped into my head because of some post in the cafe about a kid getting killed in a highway accident. the following posts were very cold hearted and i wondered if these people would say these things if not for the "internet shield" protecting them.

in real life i'm a fairly quiet cat... with close friends i'm a loud mouth... but perty quiet overall. the way i portray myself on the net you'd think i was a drunk frat boy yelling at the top of my lungs all day long.

i guess i'm a liar.

How you act online is closely related to how you are in real life. You may not be as vocal IRL but you are the same person. Online you can say what you want without any repercusions.

I'm more vocal online because I don't like confrontations IRL due to childhood trauma. I've tried getting around this problem but have yet to find a way around the major discomfort I feel when the adrenaline kicks in.

Lie? Hmmm. No I don't deliberately lie. And I do represent my opinions as accurately as I feel at the time. I do however reseve the right to change my mind on any issue.

I don't think people lie over the internet. Quite the contrary; I think people are most honest over the Internet, because they can say and express exactly how they feel about a subject without having to face consequences. it shows their true nature; their true reaction to life with all the social graces and cultural expectations stripped away because they can hide behind their anonymity.

And people can come up with all the stories that they wished were true about their lives over the Internet; their dreams of flying helicopters for the Air Force Reserves and being in the Witness Protection Program...things that in real life would be impossible. But they can make it up over the Net. Its the same reason reality TV shows. People's lives are mundane and they want to escape into something more exciting.

So do people lie over the Internet? nope...they just become who they see themselves as.

To tell you the truth, I'm more myself on the Internet than I am in face-to-face conversation. I'm what you'd call very introverted, so I generally dislike talking to people, even people I know fairly well (family members being the exception). Online, however, when you've got time to think out what you're going to say before you say it (unless it's a drunk post :P), I find that I'm much more capable of expressing my true self and my opinions.

ack, I agree with Top Gun! I used to be a pathological liar when I was younger. Usually trying to avoid situations that I felt were best left untraveled within the family. Interestingly enough the internet helped me voice my true opinions on most things and it has been much easier for me to be more vocal and truthful in real life since.

Then again... ;)

Most kids are pathological liars.

Why would I have any reason to lie here? I rarely ever post threads of my own and the majority of my posts are sarcastic at best. The others happen to be personal commentary on already existing threads.

Besides, just because you choose not to believe me doesn't mean I'm the one lying. Another facet of written discussions. :P

i have never had sex before... in 32 years of living in this mortal coil. all my references to sexuality on the dbb have been from having a live-in brother who worked at a strip club.

i couldn't tell you how to make a woman cum... i'm much better at pre-pressing acrobat files and doing taxes.

this here boys tounge can't make asian women scream in delight... it's all a lie.

i have a diverse and unsecretive internet presence, any lies that i tell won't add up to anyone who wishes to research. as it should be.
boosting ego is just chasing your own tail. IMO we should all be trying to transcend that, leave it behind.
