Just thought this looked like a cool lookin scene, so I snapped a photo. It's just reflected off the tabletop at a resteraunt.

That is a wonderful still Nitro. Sometimes a spur of the momnet shot is the best. You found a treasure in this one. You should see if the resaurant would like to buy it for a brochure. They pay good money to create shots like that one.

Lol Okay I admit, I set it up a bit. I moved a salt shaker to the far end of the table. 
It was actually taken on the first digital camera I ever owned about half a year ago, a Nikon Coolpix 3100. That was the second shot, the first one had a big glass of water in the way. I had the camera sitting on the table facing that general direction, and I was looking through the shots of the day. I switched it back to "camera" mode and the shot jumped out at me. Moved the glass, turned the camera, and that's it. I think it was mostly pure luck that a shot like that literally ended up in front of my lens
Shutter: 1/591
Aperture: f2.8
ISO Speed: 50
The problem with blowing that up at all is that it was taken on a 2.1 megapixel camera
I did try having it blown up to 8.5x11, and it got pretty grainy I'm very seriously considering something like a Canon Rebel (right now I have a Canon Powershot A80) in the next month or so, so I might eventually go back and take a better picture. Thus this'll probably not work for the brocure.
I have a few more pictures I have in my "really cool pics that turned out" collection I'll post here too: Maroon Bells, Paris, Iceland, Venice, and Sinnett Cave.
Anybody else here a photographer? Post some o yer stuff!

Nitor, wait and get the Canon 10D or 20D, the rebel is nice but those are much better.
I have the Canon G3 and an older Canon Rebel 2s film camera and a buddy from school has a Nikon D100 and we get together to take some pics. We just go anywhere and start snapping.
Photography is a lot of fun and you never know what you'll get til you see the pic.

We have quite a collection of cameras, including film SLRs. I wanted to go with a digital SLR so I could get instant results->instant learning. Without really knowing what lens to use where, I could find out really fast by trying things, then looking at the photos, whereas I wouldn't waste a bunch of rolls of film and wait forever to get it developed. Or do you guys recommend going with film, since I already have the camera (or access to it anyway), then going to digital once I've learned the ropes?

i've seen some rather interesting ways of interpretively developing films. manually blocking out certain sections of the photo as you stand over it as it develops in the dark room. essentially painting the photo in the development phase (i think the guy was using just a plain piece of paper as his tool, blocking certain portions of the photo for fractions of seconds, working all around, it was just like he was physically painting it, the motions were so similar and flowing)
sure it could also be done with manually applied filters on a computer, but there's no flow from the tools in that.

Yeah, that's the old-fashioned way of dodging and burning. A bit blurrier than the Photoshop tools, but it works.
