is it possible to flash a BIOS and make it think a AGP 4x slot is a AGP 8x slot?

ive come across a flash utility from BIOS Central that works with my HP's BIOS.

i want to get a BIOS package that uses AGP8x

is it possible or not? AFAIK they are the same slot its just clocked differently

Not gonna happen unless the chipset supports 8x. It's not a BIOS limitation, it's a hardware limitation.

Why on earth would you need this? Most cards cant even meet 4X's max speed.

Some mobo's, my ASUS P4S333 for example, won't even boot with a 8x card installed. Might be a good reason to try something like that.

To my knowledge, AGP cards autodetect the BIOS settings and adjust accordingly. C'est l'impossible to "fake" an AGP speed.

Concur with 8X being absolutely no different to 4X in real world usage.
