Interplay Parent Titus Falls
A French court puts Titus out of its misery, but what of Interplay?
By David Adams

January 6, 2005 - Several European news sites, including French site Gamekult, report that a French court has effectively declared games publisher Titus Interactive bankrupt. Titus is the parent company of long-time, and recently troubled, American games publisher Interplay.

Titus, which faced debts of around 33 million euros, was initially placed in "redressement judiciaire," a protected receivership in which the company has a limited time to define a plan for recovery. The presiding judge, however, decided to simply declare the company bankrupt.

Titus's French subsidiaries Sofra Jeux, GIE Titus Interactive, and Avalon France will be placed into redressement judiciaire. It isn't clear, however, what will happen to overseas subsidiaries Interplay and UK-based Avalon Interactive.

Interplay, of which Titus held 67 percent, has been either closed or on extreme life support for months now (depending on how reports are interpreted).

When last heard from, Interplay had sold almost all assets, including the majority of its licenses. The company kept the rights to Kingpin and Dark Alliance (without the Baldurs Gate brand).

both Interplay and Parallax. They each own a certain part of the source as I recall. Interplay owns the name and the rights thereof.
