poking around in Google found me this little gem, a history of Descent by Sirian- very good read as always (Sirian is probably the most prolific Descent commentator ever ;-).

There was a discussion about this a while ago started by this thread Clicky

Which in turn led to this thread...Clickyx2

hehe. Always fun reading it every once and a while though. Brings back memories.

tyranny: thanks for the links- good to remember that stuff occasionally.. which brings up the question- am I the only old PPG member left around here? Anyone?

I remember getting awards for beating up on PPG members back during my DMC days. Didn't have very many of them, was never easy :P

Just in the middle of the "gold rush" as it were. Two main popular clans were GOP and XPG. I was trying to get into GOP at the time but they were having civil war. When two GOPers, Salient and Breadman wanted to start a new clan with me and Sharpie. Another guy who joined from GOP, who most of you know well was 8-bit. I was a little sad to see that PSF didn't make it in Clicky's posts. I know we didn't last long but we got to know and learn from most of the descent greats and earned a respect as a clan with very honorable players.

whoops....I am so sorry J. Damn...that was stupid of me.

I was rushing to write that at the time and didn't intentionally leave out PSF. Now I feel really embarrassed. All of the PSFers have been great to me while I've known them. Especially you, sharpie and bread. It's kinda funny that I didn't mention you guys considering that I had asked to join sometime in '99.

The reason I remember it was because I believe you guys had an age limit for membership and I was too young (18 back then) and had already been on kali for a few years :P. Being 24 now its a good memory looking back, brings a smile to my face. Which is why I cannot believe for the life of me why I left you guys out...:(

Anyways...my apologies once again J. Tell Sharpie I said hi :) If I ever make an official write-up combining Sirian's list with mine PSF will definitely be on there.

You failed to mention WHY it was so hard- we hardly ever played on open Kali servers, once we got our lazy butts out of IRC! :)
Really, Sirian hit the nail on the head- we were a bunch of elietists that didn't mix well with the usual Kali crowd, and that, I think, is the main reason why the PPG is dead. Without a new flux of membership, any organization is doomed.

That was one reason. The other was that every PPG member I did end up playing was shortly after I had just started playing online for the first time :P

They were all pilots I had a great deal of respect for. The same goes for the group as a whole. Can't hold the elitism thing against them, everyone on Kali was a Kali descent elitist too :P

Oh, I didn't realize that Clicky's post was you. If it was, you should be ashamed. Just kidding :P OH sorry bout the age limit thing. We thought it would be better to have 21 & older clan. You saw what happened when Destiny joined our clan on the sneak :P Anyways, glad you guys are still around.

"Clicky" is just a generalized request to "Click here" :P

Wait a minute, Kumba was let in to UF?

That removes any credibility UF ever had as a legitimate elitist clan.

kumba was our most talented player!...he IS the reason our clan was considered elitist.

*I* know who l33tn00b was ;)
He's listed in there by his 'real' nick already.

which doesn't narrow it down at all... since I already know the list of guys he *could* be. TC said he'd tell me when we LANned up in Victoria, but he never got around to it...
