So said Senator Robert "The Hood" Byrd on a news talk show a couple of years back. Does anyone here find it a little on the racist side to have Sen. Byrd, former clansmen, plan to grill Condoleeza Rice in a none too friendly way for her Sec. of State position? Couldn't the esteemed fellow Democratic Senators quietly suggest to their doddering collegue to abstain from anything confrontational in Rice's confirmation hearing and let Senator Boxer handle the dirty work?
Perhaps the good senators on the left of the aisle just don't realise yet the caractures they've become. They must all have myopic glasses on as they evidently cannot see their ranks shrinking. I wonder how many more black votes the left will loose come mid term voting.

Senator George Allen hits the nail on the head. He admonishes the attack dog democrats (Byrd) that by trying to discredit Rice for purely partisan purposes, they undermine her credibility in a world view. Lessen her credentials so to speak, when dealing with foreign governments. To heck with America's standing on the world stage, lets just take cheap shots to score cheap points. I guess the the attack dog democrats have the view that their party is more important than Americas abilty to be number one.

Why is it that the demos continue to play the race card when the reps continue to be color blind (as we should be)? This is just another reason why I am ashamed to call myself a demo anymore.

I am glad someone is attacking Rice for the botch-job that was done on her watch as NSA (no WMD, OUCH, Osama bin Laden to attack US with plane, OUCH)

I also don't care that Byrd is going to grill Rice. Just as I think the people that elected Bush are borderline psychotic, I still think Bush and other republican reps that are bigots against gay people deserve their fair say as elected officials, including when talking to gay officials.

If the people of wherever elected Byrd, that's who they wanted and that is what the people get. That's how our system works. It reflects on the views of Byrd's home state that they would elect such a person.

Pretty ill-conceived move by the Dems to have a former KKK leader with a history of racist statements and actions (like opposing the Civil Rights Act and both Black Supreme Court Justices, one of which was a Dem) do the grilling. Let he without sin...

Will is being sarcastic... he's identifying what's been a recurring theme: Democrats insulting black Republicans as somehow not being authentic. It's almost like blacks aren't allowed to leave the Democratic party. That attitude is often sarcastically referred to in conservative circles as "don't let the negroes leave the plantation".

Lothar is correct.
Margo/Sheepdog has shown her true thoughts on blacks.
She thinks they are inferior and need the protection of the democrat party. According to her logic if one leaves and joins the other side they lose their membership to the black race. So the definition of being black to her, and the democrats in general, is being a member of the group that depends on the democrats, not being born african american.
Simply put the democrats have no need for strong, independant blacks, they need victims and if you're black and don't claim victim status you're no longer black.

When did it become a race thing? The grilling is about the Iraq debacle which Rice played front and center. What's her race? I defer to the racial draft on the Chappelle Show, she was picked up by the whites with Colin Powell in exchange for O.J. Simpson and a sneak attack, Eminem.

So the entire Republican party was racist because they let Strom Thurmond in the Senate for 60 years? C'mon, Byrd gets to do it because he and Boxer were the two staunchest opponents of the glorious liberation of Iraq. That's how I see it, I dont' look at the race, whether she's white or black she made the same bad decisions and it should be talked about. Confirmation hearings aren't supposed to be debates about the weather, food, or how the yankees are going to murder boston this year. What do you expect? The Democrats ALL to praise her, I don't remember the Republicans praising Clinton's nominees when he had them. Get off the race issue, your party is the one making a big deal, not the blue.
