Actually, wheelchair fencing has been around for a while. The US Fencing Association even has a national ranking system in place.

I've been fencing (mostly foil) on and off since I was a freshman in High School. When I first heard of wheelchair fencing, I didn't think it would be very impressive, but you oughta see some of these guys/girls! It's actually pretty amazing how quickly they can move. And considering how much of Olympic-level fencing is dependent on mental strategy, quickness, and timing, even these handicapped atheletes can compete at a high level.
