I wish Mechwarrior was like that.
I also wish they made SB for PC as well.

It's a wonder Steel Battalion sells very well because it can't use the standard Xbox controller and the game controller costs a few hundred bucks
.
(EDIT)I also find it interesting that this is Capcom's only game for the Xbox. Although I think the main reason it is for the Xbox is because USB controllers can use as many buttons as they want (although the PS2 possesses this capability as well).

i wonder if that controller could be programmed to fit a PC and run on D3, that kind of setup would be totaly bad ass for piloting a pyro

Xbox controllers are straight USB, so all one has to do is splice the connector to fit a computer USB port
. Any console USB device (Xbox or PS2) can be used in a computer. Heck, PS2 USB devices can be plugged into computer USB ports directly, since the connector is the same shape (I plugged my KeyboardMania controller into my system and it worked almost perfectly...the wheels weren't recognized though).

Why would you want to not use a stick, or a mouse if you're Birds, to play D3? The control pad is inferior for fully 3D games like D3. Too many directional inputs to use simultaneously, save us all the agony and shoot yourself in the foot right now.
Thrawn, have you played SB? Is it worth buying when they re-release it this spring? It looks awesome, but the price scared me away initially.

Someone on the ign forums created a video to showcase the game.

Not surprised, but that means you have a price tag of around $300 for the game (last I heard the controller was $250). Not even DDR's bundles went that high (I think the price for the MAX2 bundle was $60, though the controller wasn't nearly as complicated, and the game can be played with the standard PS2 controller, though it sort of defeats the game's purpose).

what's funny is in the credits section you see no mention of FASA corp... official owner of the term "Battlemech" and any derivative form is considered intellectual property. (meaning the space between the 2 words)
If you think that's anal, how about robotech suing Fasa for using similar designs?
And now we have games coming out that require special controllers for the console! who didn't see that coming? another reason I won't buy a console.

Because people are willing to risk something that's expensive for a unique gameplay experience? Besides, it's hardly the norm. And hardly a new concept either. Hell, the original Nintendo had two different input devices (powerglove and the gun thing for duck hunt). I don't remember a new input device (stateside at least) since the DDR pads for the PSX.

Well, if capcom asked for FASA's permission to use that naming convention, it would have been listed in the copyright credits. *hint hint*
Tet, no comment... powerglove was useable for just about ANY game, just not quite practical. Light zapper was just plain stupid. I'm talking about price jacking because of controller requirements.
MOST companies make a games that work with standard controllers, in this case I think they went for the gold with a crap game and hid the costs involved by forcing you to buy the controller for it in a package. Now ya'll know why it's not available for PC. Because any sap with a keyboard and "A" joystick can play it and they'd loose money on their "special limited edition"

You would probably use your cat for a bowling ball if you could get it to stay curled up long enough.
Really though, it just doesn't seem beneficial to use a game pad for a game like D3. Novelty wears off very quickly.

My cats get a shower every day, and they love it.
Don't be so touchy about the cats. I just thought that the way you held your cat was indicative of certain sporting fetishes.
I'm definately considering this game now. Looks badazz. When I buy my JBL 5.1 home theater system next month, that would rock on it. Especially with the new expansions HDTV support.

I would like to point out that FASA is no longer in existance.. officially. Micrsoft pwnd ..er owns them. As I understand it, after the last Mechwarrior installment came out, FASA was shut down. XBox should be a really good indicator that its MS controlled. :
Personally, i think that the controller idea is pretty cool, but visually, is pretty bland. The sticks look uncomfortable and the button array gives it a 3rd rate comic book appearance.
