How far watergate

Post by woodchip »

After years and years of reporters getting off on protecting their sources, seems a new wind be blowing down the 1st amend. corridors:

WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld a ruling against two reporters who could go to jail for refusing to divulge their sources about the leak of an undercover CIA officer's name.

The three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit sided with prosecutors in their attempt to compel Time magazine's Matthew Cooper and The New York Times' Judith Miller to testify before a federal grand jury about their confidential sources.

"We agree with the District Court that there is no First Amendment privilege protecting the information sought," Judge David B. Sentelle said in the ruling, which was unanimous.

I wonder if Novak is facing jail, too.

The reporters are about to take the fall for some guy that won't man up and take responsibility for actually leaking it, even after fearless leader has supposedly directed them to do so. What kind of person would sit back and watch a first amendemnent "crisis" of their causing over some information that is probably inconsequencial and most likely won't garner anything more than a slap on the wrist. Moral courage indeed.

Is Novak involved with the same agent as the other two?

Novak was the first to publish the name.
