Here's an interesting editorial from the Arab News (I'm really beginning to like this news source although it's a bit two-minded in regard to America.) This is a more complicated question to ponder than one would initially think. Plus, I love the Churchill quote.

While I am one to gleefully send Saddam to his demise, there is a problem with that. The day he dies...he becomes a martyr. I think the Iraqi's should handle and mete out what justice they deem best for uncle Saddam. They should have a trial and expose to all those anti-war and socialist liberals the extent of the mans crimes. Exhibit in exquisit detail the rapes and tortures that were done at his and his dememted sons behest. Let those that think they still support this monster be shamed by what is presented. If it takes the rest of Saddams lifetime to showcase what a abominable inhuman person he is, so be it. Maybe after awhile the magnitude of what he has wrought will finally sink into that walled off human part of Saddam's brain. When the realization that humanity thinks of him as no great person of stature, then condemn him to life in prison. Death will be but a gift for him.

But seriously, I totally agree with Woodchip. Killing him would turn him into a martyr which would please his still remaining followers and apologists to no end. He should be locked up in a prison something like Leavenworth where he can sit and think about it for the rest of his miserable existance.

That would kill him way too quick. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a world dunk-tank tour where saddam is in a dunk tank, with all the money collected to help pay for some of the deficit were creating to fund the iraq occupation.

How bout this...

Drop him in the middle of New York Central Park in a "Little Bo Peep" outfit and mount cameras everywhere to catch the footage. Then mount an electrified fence all the way around and charge admission to hunt him down armed only with a cattle prod.

Upon capture, you are permitted to do anything you want to do to him short of anything lethal. (because that would spoil the fun for everyone else) Once you run this for a couple of days....go on a nation-wide tour.

Then when the tour is finished, duct tape claymore mines to him (facing towards him of course), drop him in the middle of Arizona and hold an auction on who gets the remote detonator to blow his ass to pieces.

We'd have our fun with Saddam, and be rich as hell while we're at it! Then take that money, and put it to good use....like give it all to NASA.

Seriously though, I think it would be best if he was tried in his own country by his own people. Justice in Muslim countries tends to be quick and harsh, the last thing we need is for a long drawn out trial that would happen if he was tried in an international court.
