Lots of cool movies at this site. Here's my favorite; I had no idea that vines did this:

twining vines

Also interesting are sleepytime and sensitive plant.

The movies are embedded Quicktime, btw.

Very interesting. I've seen movies like these before, but the sensitive plant was new to me.

those sensative plants actually do that in realtime. they are well named. you can touch them with your finger and watch in realtime as they curl themselves up.

i think they are a weed here.

Plants are like a living being much like animal life, but on a much longer and larger time scale. Like slow moving glaciers and mountains and geological time scales, if you were to have the last couple million years in an hour long time lapse movie.

This video isn't quite as exciting, but it's interesting since the light remains constant. The plant was entrained with a normal light/dark cycle then shifted to constant light. The plant's circadian rhythm persists (for awhile) even after cyclic light/dark stimuli are removed.

edit: this one is also Quicktime

What I mean is, everything would seem alive if you looked at it from the right time scale. Up to and including things that are definitaly not defined as alive, such as the planet itself, yet it would appear alive if you were able to see it's millions of years of history played out in a short time.
